The intern will play a crucial role in supporting the Office of the Deputy Executive Secretary for Programme Support and the Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Section. The primary focus will be on enhancing data collection, visualization, and dashboard creation to ensure compliance and efficiency in service delivery. The intern will engage in various tasks that involve reviewing existing datasets, developing databases, and utilizing statistical tools to interpret data sets. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about data analytics and its application in driving informed decision-making within the context of the United Nations' mission.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a range of duties including: reviewing existing datasets and planning tools, compiling data for performance reporting, developing and establishing databases and data collection systems, utilizing statistical and analytical tools to interpret data, identifying and communicating trends and patterns, supporting the implementation of data systems in compliance with UNHQ’s results framework, developing a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation plan, preparing presentations of findings using visualization tools, conducting data quality assessments, and performing other related duties as needed. This position requires a proactive approach to data management and a commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of the ECA's programme support activities.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme (second-level university degree or equivalent) or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level). Graduates must commence the internship within one year of graduation. Additionally, applicants should demonstrate a strong interest in the work of the United Nations and possess the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a background in analytics, economics, statistics, computer science, data science, engineering, information management, mathematics, geographic information systems, management, or a related field. A degree or studies in these areas is required to ensure that the intern has the necessary foundational knowledge to succeed in this role.
Experience: No prior working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. However, familiarity with standard software applications and knowledge of analytics and presentation tools such as Power BI, Excel, Tableau, Infogram, PowerPoint, SQL, R, Python, or SAS is desirable. The ability to analyze complex data and present it in a simplified manner is also essential for this position.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is desirable, and proficiency in another official UN language would be considered an advantage.
