Job Overview:
The Communication Consultant will be an integral part of the Communication Programme team, focusing on both internal and external communication strategies. The role encompasses community engagement, digital communication, content creation, and podcast management. The consultant will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the UPU's social media presence, ensuring effective digital coverage of significant events such as the Dubai Congress and World Post Day, and producing engaging content for various platforms. The position requires a proactive approach to communication, with an emphasis on strategic planning and audience engagement.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's duties include:
  • Community Engagement: - Develop and maintain the UPU’s social media presence across platforms like X, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram. - Plan and schedule daily social media content, monitor feedback, and engage with stakeholders. - Analyze social media trends and performance metrics to enhance engagement and follower growth. - Assist in creating strategic social media campaigns.
  • Digital Communication: - Ensure comprehensive digital coverage of UPU events, coordinating with partners for timely content release. - Support multimedia production during events, including video interviews and photography.
  • Content and Publications: - Ghostwrite for UPU Executive Management, producing speeches, statements, and publications. - Collaborate with content owners to create accessible and engaging materials for the UPU website and quarterly magazine.
  • Podcast Management: - Develop and grow the UPU’s podcast, proposing episode ideas aligned with industry trends. - Coordinate recording processes and promote episodes through various channels.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree (Bachelor) in communication, journalism, public relations, international relations, or a related field. A minimum of three years of work experience in communication or public relations is required, or two years with a graduate degree. Experience in an international environment or organization is desirable. Candidates should demonstrate excellent writing and editing skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to develop communication plans. Strong oral and written communication skills, knowledge of social media platforms, and project management skills are essential. Familiarity with audio and video production is an asset.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, public relations, international relations, or a related field is mandatory. A graduate degree may substitute for some work experience requirements, providing a pathway for candidates with advanced education to qualify for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant work experience in communication or public relations for candidates with an undergraduate degree, or two years for those with a graduate degree. Experience in an international context or within international organizations is highly valued, as it demonstrates the ability to navigate diverse cultural and operational landscapes.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, along with a good working knowledge of French. Given that French is the official language of the UPU, candidates should be comfortable communicating in both languages, as they are the working languages of the UPU International Bureau.

Additional Notes:
The consultant will be based at UPU Headquarters in Bern, Switzerland, with the possibility of two days of teleworking per week. The terms of service are governed by the consultant contracts of the UPU International Bureau. Candidates working under these contracts are not eligible for the UPU pension scheme and do not receive family allowances. They must secure their own health insurance for the duration of their employment. Additionally, candidates currently employed by postal entities must be released by their respective postal authorities to be considered for this consultancy.
