Job Overview: The position of Part-time Architect & Urban Planner Expert at UN-Habitat in Bahrain is designed to enhance the capacity of the country programme in urban and architectural fields. The expert will be involved in project management, programme coordination, data collection and analysis, mapping, and the design of tools, reports, and studies aimed at building sustainable communities and urban settings. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government authorities, technical staff, and community groups, to ensure that activities are developed with comprehensive input from all relevant partners.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Part-time Architect & Urban Planner Expert include compiling and reviewing data related to urban development, supporting capacity building and training sessions, providing technical support to project teams, liaising with experts and stakeholders, coordinating with ministries and municipalities, conducting needs assessments, preparing technical missions and advocacy activities, developing concept notes and project documents, creating maps and urban design outputs, contributing to awareness-raising campaigns, and supporting the implementation of the UN Bahrain Cooperation Framework. The expert will also be responsible for preparing briefs, proposals, reports, and presentations, as well as supporting the development and implementation of various projects and activities undertaken by the country programme.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a first-level university degree in architecture, urban planning, engineering, or related fields relevant to sustainable urban development and urban planning and design. Additionally, two years of relevant work experience in urban planning, design, architecture, or related fields is required. The candidate must have direct proven experience in drawing and preparing graphical materials using computer-assisted design tools, along with strong graphic representation skills. A portfolio of plans and designs authored by the candidate is desirable. Proficiency in standard office software and specialized applications related to urban planning and design, including AutoCAD, is also required.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a first-level university degree in architecture, urban planning, engineering, or a related field that is relevant to sustainable urban development and urban planning and design. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of urban environments and contributing effectively to the projects undertaken by UN-Habitat.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant work experience in the fields of urban planning, design, architecture, or related areas. This experience should include direct involvement in projects that focus on sustainable urban development and the application of design principles in real-world scenarios. Proven experience in using computer-assisted design tools to create graphical materials is also necessary.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is required for this position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
