Job Overview:
The position of Architect for Public Parks Design involves developing innovative design solutions for four public parks in Bahrain. The architect will work closely with UN-Habitat to enhance the quality of green areas in alignment with the National Afforestation Plan. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of landscape design and urban sustainability, as the architect will be responsible for creating designs that not only beautify public spaces but also contribute to the health and wellbeing of the community. The architect will engage with various stakeholders, including government institutions and the public, to ensure that the designs reflect community needs and environmental considerations. The expected duration of the assignment is four months, during which the architect will produce detailed design documentation and reports that track the project's progress and incorporate feedback from community workshops.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The architect's duties include reviewing site assessments and data provided by UN-Habitat, preparing detailed design documentation such as plans, elevations, sections, and renderings, and compiling a booklet of design solutions that can be applied broadly to improve public parks. The architect will maintain open communication with UN-Habitat, providing monthly progress reports that include an inception report outlining the initial project plan, a design progress report that incorporates community feedback, and a final report detailing the design process and rationale behind the chosen designs for each park. The architect will also be expected to engage with relevant institutions and partners to ensure collaborative development of the project.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in architecture, civil engineering, or related fields, along with a good working knowledge of design software and 3D design capabilities. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. A minimum of seven years of relevant work experience in landscape design, public park designs, or similar fields is required. The candidate should demonstrate strong design presentation skills and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced university degree in architecture, civil engineering, or a related field. Candidates with a first-level university degree may be considered if they have additional qualifying experience. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of urban design and landscape architecture, particularly in the context of public parks and green spaces.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least seven years of relevant work experience in landscape design or public park design. This experience should include a proven track record of successful projects that demonstrate the ability to create functional and aesthetically pleasing public spaces. Familiarity with urban sustainability practices and climate adaptation strategies is also highly desirable, given the focus of the role on enhancing green areas in Bahrain.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Proficiency in Arabic is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance community engagement in the design process. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, given its status as a working language within the UN system.
