Job Overview:
The Programme Management Senior Officer will play a crucial role in advancing the United Nations' efforts in utilizing open-source earth observation data for peace and security initiatives. This position involves collaboration with the Innovation Cell and various stakeholders to enhance the functionality of the Geoguard dashboard, which is designed to support conflict prevention and peacebuilding efforts. The incumbent will be responsible for user engagement, training, and providing technical direction to ensure the effective application of open-source tools. Additionally, the role requires staying updated on emerging technologies relevant to peace and security, facilitating partnerships, and contributing to the overall strategic direction of the project.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be tasked with developing a comprehensive plan for expanding the Geoguard tool, including timelines, resource allocation, and coordination mechanisms with various stakeholders. Responsibilities include creating user-testing and feedback reports, supporting the development of a monitoring and evaluation framework, and documenting partnerships with academic and technical entities. The officer will also engage in producing technical documents and research papers, contribute to discussions on project directions, and ensure effective monitoring and evaluation processes are in place. The role requires regular updates on project management aspects and maintaining strong relationships with external partners.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in fields such as Environmental Sciences, Economic, Environmental Policy, Political Science, or law, along with two years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) with four years of relevant experience is acceptable. Relevant experience includes managing geospatial projects or conducting research related to conflict and humanitarian affairs. Desired qualifications include experience managing international geospatial projects and training UN staff on open-source tools.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Environmental Sciences, Economic, Environmental Policy, Political Science, law, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) is acceptable with additional relevant experience.
