Job Overview: The Community Engagement and Advocacy Expert will be an integral part of the Communication Programme team, responsible for both internal and external communication strategies. This role involves engaging with communities, managing digital communication, and ensuring effective online coverage of significant events such as the Dubai Congress and World Post Day. The expert will also be tasked with content creation, including ghostwriting for executive management, and maintaining the UPU's podcast, Voice Mail. The position requires a proactive approach to developing and implementing communication strategies that resonate with diverse audiences and enhance the UPU's visibility and engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Community Engagement and Advocacy Expert include:
Community Engagement: - Develop and maintain the UPU’s social media presence across major platforms such as X, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram. - Plan, schedule, and release daily social media content. - Monitor and moderate stakeholder feedback on social media channels. - Track industry-related news and UPU developments daily. - Drive growth in follower base, reach, and engagement metrics. - Stay updated on social media trends to keep UPU channels dynamic and interactive. - Analyze social media analytics reports to assess performance and inform strategy. - Assist in creating strategic social media campaigns targeting specific issues.
Digital Communication: - Ensure comprehensive digital and social media coverage of key events like the Dubai Congress and World Post Day. - Collaborate with partners from member countries and the UN System for timely social media posts and campaign amplification. - Support multimedia production during events, including video interviews and photography.
Content and Publications: - Ghostwrite for UPU Executive Management, producing speeches, statements, and publication forewords. - Collaborate with content owners and editorial experts to create engaging web content, including news articles, summaries, and blogs. - Contribute to the quarterly UPU magazine, Union Post.
Podcast Management: - Oversee the development and growth of the UPU’s podcast, Voice Mail. - Generate ideas for new podcast episodes aligned with industry trends and UPU events. - Coordinate preparation and recording processes, including outreach to interviewees and communication with the podcast host. - Promote each podcast episode through various channels, including the UPU website and social media.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Community Engagement and Advocacy Expert position include: - A university degree (Bachelor) in communication, journalism, public relations, international relations, or a related field. - A minimum of three years of work experience in communication or public relations with an undergraduate degree, or two years of experience with a graduate degree. - Experience in an international environment or organization is desirable. - Excellent writing and editing skills for both print and digital media. - Strategic thinking ability to develop communication plans and identify target audiences. - Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills. - In-depth knowledge of social media platforms, publishing tools, trends, and best practices. - Familiarity with social media analytics. - Experience in audio and video media production is an asset. - Good project management skills.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a university degree (Bachelor) in communication, journalism, public relations, international relations, or a related field. This educational background is essential to ensure the candidate has the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for effective communication and advocacy work within the UPU.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of work experience in communication or public relations for candidates with an undergraduate degree. Alternatively, candidates with a graduate degree must have at least two years of relevant work experience. Experience in an international environment or organization is highly desirable, as it provides valuable context for the role's responsibilities.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, along with a good working knowledge of French. Given that French is the official language of the UPU and both English and French are the working languages of the UPU International Bureau, fluency in these languages is crucial for effective communication and collaboration within the organization.
Additional Notes: The consultant will be based at UPU Headquarters in Bern, Switzerland, with the possibility of two days of teleworking per week. The conditions of service are governed by the terms of the consultant contracts of the UPU International Bureau. It is important to note that experts working under consultant contracts are not eligible to join the UPU pension scheme and do not receive family allowances. Additionally, experts are required to obtain their own health insurance covering illness, accident, invalidity, and death risks for the duration of their employment. Candidates currently employed by postal entities and shortlisted for this consultancy must be released by the relevant postal authority.
