Job Overview: The Heavy Vehicle Operator position is crucial for the Mission Support, Transport Unit of UNSMIL. The incumbent will be responsible for operating trucks and material handling equipment to transport cargo, passengers, and hazardous goods across various locations within the mission's operational area. This role requires a high level of professionalism and adherence to safety protocols, as the operator will be handling sensitive materials such as aviation fuel and gas cylinders. The operator will work under the supervision of the Chief Transport Officer and may be required to redeploy to Sirte depending on mission needs. Duties and Responsibilities: The Heavy Vehicle Operator will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Operating trucks and material handling equipment for the transportation of cargo, passengers, and hazardous materials.
Recovering vehicles from team sites and transporting them for repairs.
Assisting in the preparation of vehicles for field trips, including maintenance tasks such as changing wheels and cleaning air filters.
Driving specialized and armored vehicles, ensuring compliance with manufacturer and transport guidelines.
Performing daily maintenance checks on assigned vehicles, including oil, water, battery, and tire inspections, and arranging for necessary repairs.
Delivering parcels and documents between the office and various institutions, including ministries and embassies.
Making minor purchases and collecting urgent supplies from local vendors.
Handling customs regulations and formalities for goods collection.
Ensuring safe transport of authorized personnel and general cargo. 1
Liaising with the Dispatch Supervisor regarding vehicle maintenance and ensuring proper documentation is maintained. 1

Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid national commercial driving/operator license (categories B and C). A defensive driving certificate for armored vehicles is desirable, as is a technical or vocational diploma in the automotive field. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, client orientation, and teamwork skills, as these are essential for success in this position.

Additional Notes: The appointment for this position is for an initial period of one year, subject to the availability of the post and budgetary approval.
