Job Overview: The Finance Manager position at NRC in Sudan is a critical role that ensures the financial systems of the country align with NRC standards while effectively supporting program and project implementation. The Finance Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Financial Handbook, NRC policies, and the requirements set forth by donors and auditors. This role requires a proactive approach to financial management, ensuring that adequate financial routines and systems are in place, and that NRC’s accounting practices are adhered to in a timely manner. This position also involves building strong relationships with logistics, procurement, and HR staff to facilitate effective communication and information flow across the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Finance Manager will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: ensuring that adequate financial management routines and systems are established and maintained; adhering to NRC’s accounting practices and standards; monitoring cash flows and expenditures; providing timely financial reports to relevant stakeholders; ensuring compliance with statutory financial obligations; coordinating audits; developing operational finance tools; conducting training for finance teams; and contributing to the implementation of cash-based interventions. The Finance Manager will also be responsible for establishing a robust financial documentation and filing system, reviewing the performance of staff under their management, and enabling operational decisions based on sound financial analysis. Furthermore, the Finance Manager will play a key role in NRC’s transparency and anti-corruption efforts within the country program.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Finance Manager position must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of experience working as a Financial Manager in a humanitarian or recovery context is required. Candidates should have experience working in complex and volatile environments, a solid understanding of leadership skills, and proficiency in modern accounting systems, particularly Agresso/Unit
Previous experience as international staff in a similar capacity is also essential. Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory, and knowledge of the context in Sudan is considered an advantage. Experience with start-up countries or programs is also beneficial.
Educational Background: The educational background required for the Finance Manager position includes a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a similar field.
