Job Overview:
The Liaison Assistant will play a crucial role in facilitating communication and coordination between the United Nations mission and local communities. This position requires the incumbent to gather and analyze information regarding local perceptions and needs, which is essential for creating sustainable peace. The Liaison Assistant will also be responsible for establishing communication networks to enhance interactions between the mission and local populations. This role involves following up on early warning mechanisms related to protection alerts and advising on protection threats, including issues of sexual violence and child recruitment. The Liaison Assistant will contribute to social cohesion initiatives and document conflict-related developments, ensuring that the mission's protection database is up-to-date. The position demands a proactive approach to community engagement and requires the ability to translate documents accurately, thereby facilitating effective communication between mission staff and local authorities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Liaison Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: coordinating the gathering of information on community needs and concerns; facilitating information sharing on local conflict dynamics; setting up communication networks and forums; following up on early warning mechanisms; providing advice on protection threats; liaising with military and humanitarian actors; promoting social cohesion through community initiatives; reporting humanitarian needs; documenting political and socio-economic developments; facilitating communication between mission staff and local communities; assisting in field activities; and performing other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Training in communication, community work, project monitoring, and logistical or administrative issues is desirable. The position requires a strong understanding of the local context and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and planning skills, as well as a commitment to gender equality and the mission's objectives.

Educational Background:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. Additional training or qualifications in relevant fields such as communication, community work, or project management would be advantageous and may enhance a candidate's application.

Experience:
Candidates must have at least five years of related work experience in support roles focused on the protection of civilians, disarmament, conflict resolution, or humanitarian work with NGOs or civil society organizations. This requirement is reduced to three years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher, indicating that higher education can substitute for some years of experience.

Languages:
Fluency in French is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of English is desirable, as it may facilitate communication with international staff and stakeholders.
