Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is designed to provide valuable experience and contribute to the work of the Macroeconomics, Finance and Governance Division (MFGD) at the Economic Commission for Africa. Interns will engage in research, data analysis, and support various programs and projects related to economic development, particularly focusing on capital markets and innovative financing. The intern will work under the supervision of a designated officer and will be expected to participate in regular meetings and discussions to achieve work-related outcomes. The internship is a full-time position, requiring interns to work five days a week for a total of 35 hours. The successful candidate will gain insights into the workings of the United Nations and contribute to the organization's mission of promoting economic growth and transformation in Africa.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Assisting officers in conducting analytical research on issues related to the development of capital markets, particularly focusing on bond markets at both sovereign and corporate levels.
Compiling, processing, and analyzing information and data on capital markets, domestic private investment, and innovative financing structures in Africa, which may involve econometric skills and economic modeling approaches.
Supporting officers in conducting programs and projects related to bond markets, economic development, and innovative finance.
Carrying out additional tasks as required by the Section and the Division. The intern will also be expected to develop a work plan with specific outcomes and achievements for the duration of the internship, ensuring that they contribute effectively to the team's objectives.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). Additionally, candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications and demonstrate the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. A commitment to understanding and being tolerant of differing opinions and views is essential. No prior work experience is required, but any relevant training, education, or advanced coursework that can benefit the United Nations during the internship is advantageous.
Educational Background: Applicants must be either enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program or be in the final academic year of a first university degree program. This educational background should ideally be in fields related to economics, finance, international relations, or other relevant disciplines. Candidates should also possess computer literacy in standard software applications, which is crucial for performing the tasks associated with the internship effectively.
