Job Details

Job Posting Organization:
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is a leading scientific research institution established to probe the fundamental structure of the universe. It employs physicists and engineers who utilize the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments to study the basic constituents of matter. CERN's mission has included a commitment to diversity since its inception, making it a core value of the organization. The organization operates in multiple countries and is known for its collaborative international research efforts.

Job Overview:
The Technical Student Programme at CERN offers students the opportunity to gain practical training in various domains related to Electrical or Electronics Engineering. This unique internship allows students to work at the forefront of technology, contributing to projects in high or low voltage electrical engineering, energy distribution, communication networks, computer systems, signal processing, microelectronics, and radiofrequency. This program is designed for students who are looking to enhance their practical skills and knowledge while making a significant addition to their CV. However, it is important to note that students specializing in theoretical or experimental particle physics are not eligible for this program, ensuring that the focus remains on engineering disciplines.

Duties and Responsibilities:
As a participant in the Technical Student Programme, you will engage in hands-on projects that may involve designing, testing, and implementing electrical systems and components. You will collaborate with experienced engineers and researchers, gaining insights into the practical applications of your studies. Responsibilities may include conducting experiments, analyzing data, and contributing to the development of innovative solutions in electrical engineering. You will also be expected to maintain documentation of your work and present your findings to your peers and supervisors, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the Technical Student Programme, candidates must be nationals of a CERN Member or Associate Member State. Applicants should have completed at least 18 months or 3 semesters of their undergraduate studies by the time of the next selection round in May 202
  • It is essential that candidates remain registered as full-time students throughout the duration of the internship. A good command of English or French is also required, as these are the primary languages used at CERN.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be enrolled in a university program related to Electrical or Electronics Engineering. The program should be recognized and accredited, ensuring that students have a solid foundation in the principles of engineering and technology. The requirement of having completed at least 18 months of study indicates that applicants should be in the latter stages of their undergraduate education, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandated, candidates should demonstrate a strong academic background in engineering principles. Any previous internships, projects, or coursework related to electrical or electronics engineering will be beneficial and may enhance the application. The program is designed for students who are eager to learn and apply their knowledge in a real-world environment, so a proactive attitude and willingness to engage in hands-on work are essential.

Languages:
A good knowledge of English or French is mandatory for all applicants. Proficiency in either language will facilitate effective communication within the diverse international environment at CERN. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required for this position.

Additional Notes:
The Technical Student Programme offers a contract of association ranging from 4 to 12 months, providing students with a monthly allowance of 3452 Swiss Francs (net of tax), along with a travel allowance. Depending on personal circumstances, there may be additional financial support for those who are married or have children. Participants will also benefit from CERN's comprehensive Health Insurance scheme, with contributions automatically deducted from the monthly allowance. Students will accrue 2.5 days of paid leave per month during their internship. It is important for applicants to prepare a CV in English or French in PDF format, and while supplementary documents such as academic transcripts or reference letters are recommended, they are not mandatory. The application deadline is set for March 3rd, 2025, at 23:59 CET, and candidates may be contacted for interviews or additional information during the evaluation process.
