Job Overview: The HVAC Technician will be responsible for overseeing all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) activities within the Upper Nile State of South Sudan. This role involves direct reporting to the State Engineer and encompasses a wide range of responsibilities including the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems, refrigeration units, and industrial kitchen equipment. The technician will ensure that all installations meet safety and environmental standards, manage maintenance contracts, and provide technical advice on HVAC systems. The position also includes a focus on capacity building through training and mentoring of local staff, ensuring that the mission's HVAC needs are met efficiently and effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: The HVAC Technician will perform a variety of tasks including: installing, maintaining, servicing, and repairing HVAC and refrigeration systems; conducting scheduled and emergency maintenance; ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards; managing facilities maintenance service contracts; interpreting and creating HVAC and electrical drawings; conducting low voltage electrical installations; monitoring inventory of tools and spare parts; providing technical advice on HVAC systems; entering data into asset control databases; conducting training for national staff; performing inventory of engineering assets; submitting regular reports; designing and implementing HVAC projects; and performing other related functions as required by the State Engineer.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in HVAC systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair. They should demonstrate expertise in refrigeration systems and industrial kitchen equipment. The ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings is essential. Candidates should also have experience in managing maintenance contracts and possess strong organizational skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently. A commitment to safety and environmental standards is crucial, as is the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a challenging environment.
Educational Background: A technical diploma or equivalent qualification in HVAC technology, mechanical engineering, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in HVAC systems, refrigeration, or related areas will be considered an asset. Continuous professional development and training in the latest HVAC technologies and practices are encouraged.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair.
