Job Overview:
As an Electromechanical Engineer within CERN's Engineering Department, you will play a crucial role in the maintenance and management of equipment essential for the operation of CERN's particle accelerators and experiments. This position is situated in the Handling Engineering Group, which is responsible for the transport and handling operations of various items, including chemical and radioactive products. You will lead the Handling Equipment Maintenance Section, overseeing a team of technical engineers and technicians. Your responsibilities will include providing engineering support for the maintenance and repair of various handling equipment, ensuring optimal performance throughout their lifecycle, and developing maintenance strategies in collaboration with the Group Leader. This role requires a proactive approach to managing technical tendering processes and service contracts, as well as a commitment to safety and efficiency in all operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise a team of 10 technical engineers and technicians responsible for maintaining handling equipment at CERN.
  • Provide engineering support for the maintenance and repair of overhead travelling cranes, lifts, and industrial vehicles.
  • Offer technical advice on equipment maintenance and ensure adherence to safety standards.
  • Prepare cost and resource estimates for manpower activities and equipment, and monitor budget compliance.
  • Identify and justify investments in new equipment and consolidate existing equipment as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Group Leader to establish and monitor maintenance strategies.
  • Manage technical tendering processes for procurement of equipment and services, including drafting and revising technical specifications.
  • Oversee service contracts for maintenance of equipment and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Utilize CMM systems for equipment management and suggest improvements for operational efficiency.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in Electromechanical Engineering, with a focus on industrial equipment such as travelling cranes, lifts, or special vehicles. Extensive experience in design or maintenance management of such equipment is essential, along with demonstrated experience in software maintenance engineering and control systems. Additionally, candidates should have experience in drafting technical specifications and managing small to medium-sized technical teams, as well as managing supply or service contracts.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Electromechanical Engineering or a related field is required. Candidates with equivalent relevant experience in the industry may also be considered. The educational background should emphasize knowledge of industrial equipment and systems relevant to the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have extensive experience as an Electromechanical Engineer, particularly in the design or maintenance management of travelling cranes, lifts, or special industrial vehicles. Experience in managing technical teams and service contracts is also required, with a proven track record of leading projects and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English at a minimum C1 level is mandatory, as the role involves drafting technical specifications and making oral presentations. Proficiency in French in professional contexts is considered a bonus, enhancing communication within the diverse workforce at CERN.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered as a limited duration contract for 5 years, with the possibility of applying for an indefinite position subject to certain conditions. The role requires a commitment of 40 hours per week and may involve work in radiation areas, underground installations, and potentially during nights, Sundays, and official holidays. A valid driving license is required, and candidates must obtain medical clearance due to occupational health risks associated with the position.
