Job Overview:
The WASH Assistant plays a crucial role in the implementation of the DRC WASH infrastructure program in Beledweyne. This position involves assisting the WASH Officer in ensuring the quality of planning, implementation, and follow-up of WASH activities. The WASH Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day execution of water, sanitation, and hygiene activities, particularly in the designated areas of intervention. The role requires a proactive approach to conducting assessments, training beneficiaries, and liaising with local authorities to ensure effective program delivery. The WASH Assistant will also be involved in monitoring construction activities, preparing reports, and mobilizing communities to maintain water sources, ensuring a comprehensive approach to WASH interventions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The WASH Assistant's responsibilities include conducting needs and technical assessments for various WASH infrastructures, preparing and submitting order requests in accordance with DRC policies, and conducting training sessions on the operation and maintenance of water supply and sanitation facilities for beneficiaries and water management committees. The role also involves organizing hygiene promotion training, securing consent from local authorities and beneficiaries prior to interventions, and regularly monitoring ongoing construction activities to ensure compliance with design specifications and work schedules. Additionally, the WASH Assistant will prepare weekly and monthly work plans, feasibility reports, and completion certificates, verify work done at sites, recommend payments to contractors, and collaborate with project staff for effective management of the WASH project. Participation in preparing reports and proposals for donors, mobilizing communities for water source maintenance, and coordinating with stakeholders for smooth implementation of activities are also key duties.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 1 year of programming experience, specifically in WASH, within an INGO or NGO context. A proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines is essential, along with a good understanding of sphere and HAP standards. Excellent communication skills, a calm demeanor, and a good sense of humor are important traits. Candidates should have a thorough understanding of national WASH policies and strategies, as well as experience working in volatile areas and community-based interventions. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with GPS, Arc GIS, and Google Earth are required, along with strong written and spoken English skills.

Educational Background:
