Job Overview:
As a key member of the Vaccine Development team, the Senior Program Officer for Clinical Vaccine Development will oversee a portfolio of investments and partnerships focused on priority product development efforts. This role will involve managing innovative vaccine projects that are expected to have a significant impact in the near term. The officer will leverage correlates of protection to expedite clinical development, utilize novel clinical trial designs, and incorporate artificial intelligence into clinical development processes. Responsibilities include providing clinical leadership, managing programs, developing strategies, and communicating Vaccine Development priorities to various stakeholders, including Product Development Partners and other foundation partners. The officer will work closely with the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Deputy Director of Integrated Clinical Development and the Deputy Director of Chemicals, Manufacturing, and Controls to shape the strategic vision of the team and contribute to the overall goals of the group.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Define and lead the strategy for the correlates of protection portfolio in collaboration with the Deputy Director of Integrated Clinical Vaccines Development.
  • Partner with team leadership to communicate and implement the overall Vaccine Development strategy.
  • Act as the foundation's Project Lead for priority vaccine development programs.
  • Negotiate, implement, and manage a portfolio of grants or performance-based contracts, ensuring alignment among stakeholders and providing insightful analyses and recommendations for funding.
  • Consult and support grantees and partners to maximize project impact and create integrated vaccine development plans.
  • Advise on clinical vaccine study design, including reviewing protocols and regulatory documents.
  • Propose innovative ideas for rapid and cost-effective clinical development of vaccines.
  • Provide senior-level technical expertise for internal Program Strategy Teams and partners.
  • Guide the foundation's Integrated Product Development Plans and support the development process. 1
  • Represent the foundation externally and forge collaborations with global vaccine development experts. 1
  • Identify and cultivate partnerships to achieve strategic objectives and manage these partnerships for impact. 1
  • Attend internal and external meetings to represent Clinical and Vaccine Development.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a PhD and/or MD with at least 15 years of experience in clinical research and development, vaccine development, infectious diseases, or immunology. Experience in polio or other epidemic infectious diseases, as well as familiarity with various vaccine platforms, is advantageous. Industry experience as a project lead for vaccine or biologics products and a strong understanding of clinical vaccine research from phase 1 through phase 4, including statistical knowledge, are essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to handle complex issues, manage multiple tasks, and maintain confidentiality with discretion and attention to detail. Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, are required, along with the ability to work effectively in diverse teams and environments.

Educational Background:
A PhD and/or MD is required for this position, with a focus on areas such as clinical research, vaccine development, infectious diseases, or immunology. Advanced degrees in related fields may also be considered, depending on the candidate's experience and expertise.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in clinical research and development, particularly in vaccine development and infectious diseases. Experience working with partners in low and middle-income countries is preferred, as well as experience in business and technical due diligence assessments of potential investments. The ability to synthesize technical and commercial information for strategic decision-making is crucial.

Languages:
