Job Overview:
The Resource Mobilization Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the Director General’s Office (DGO) at IFPRI by developing and executing effective fundraising strategies. This position requires a highly motivated individual who is innovative and goal-oriented, with a strong background in creating successful proposals to secure funding from various sources, including foundations and government agencies. The officer will work closely with senior staff and research leads to enhance resource mobilization efforts and ensure that IFPRI's research initiatives are well-funded. The role involves strategic planning, proposal development, and coordination across the institute, making it essential for the officer to possess excellent communication and analytical skills. The position is based in Nairobi, Kenya, and is a one-year renewable appointment, indicating a stable opportunity for the right candidate.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Resource Mobilization Officer will be responsible for a variety of essential duties, including but not limited to:
  • Fundraising: Advising staff on the development and implementation of fundraising strategies, conducting competitive intelligence gathering to identify new donors and funding prospects, and managing cultivation and stewardship for select foundations and individual donors.
  • Proposal Development & Coordination: Liaising with research units and corporate services to facilitate proposal development, ensuring high-quality reviews of key proposals, and proposing improvements for practices and systems involving IFPRI’s proposal pipeline.
  • Other Duties: Assisting with partnership-related activities and event coordination as needed, ensuring that all fundraising efforts align with IFPRI's mission and objectives. The officer will also be expected to maintain a proactive approach to identifying funding opportunities and developing relationships with potential donors.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of relevant work experience or a Master’s degree or equivalent certification with a minimum of 8 years of experience. It is preferred that candidates have at least 4 years of experience in a business development team supporting international development clients, particularly with USAID and US government contracting. Additionally, candidates should have at least 2 years of management experience and a proven track record in developing and implementing fundraising strategies for nonprofit organizations. Strong communication skills, both written and oral, are essential, along with the ability to synthesize complex scientific and programmatic content for diverse audiences. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, possess strong analytical skills, and be comfortable working in a global team environment.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as international development, public policy, or business administration. A Master’s degree is preferred and may enhance a candidate's qualifications. Relevant certifications in fundraising or nonprofit management may also be considered beneficial.

Experience:
The position requires significant experience in resource mobilization, with a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience for candidates with a Master’s degree or 10 years for those with a Bachelor’s degree. Candidates should have experience in business development, particularly in supporting international development clients, and a strong background in fundraising strategies and proposal development. Management experience is also essential, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication at IFPRI. Knowledge of a second language from the U.N. system is preferred and may enhance a candidate's qualifications, especially for roles involving international collaboration.

Additional Notes:
This position is a full-time role with a one-year renewable contract. The expected salary range for this position is between $85,600 and $104,900, depending on experience and other job-related factors. IFPRI offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance coverage, which is available to active, non-temporary, full-time and part-time employees who work at least 25 hours per week.
