Job Overview: The Liaison Officer will play a crucial role in the Community Liaison Office, engaging with host country stakeholders and multilateral organizations to address peacekeeping, crisis management, conflict prevention, and mediation. The officer will be responsible for preparing briefing notes and talking points for senior staff, providing information on assigned issues, and developing strategies to tackle peace challenges. The position requires building and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders, including community leaders, government representatives, and NGOs, to facilitate discussions and consensus-building. The Liaison Officer will also participate in team activities related to political issues in the region, assist in capacity building, and support mission-wide reporting and coordination efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Liaison Officer's duties include participating in operational activities related to the office's work, preparing briefing notes for senior staff, providing information on assigned issues, and collaborating with counterparts to develop strategies. The officer will maintain relations with stakeholders, prepare trend analyses and situation reports, and support programming and institutional liaison. Additionally, the Liaison Officer will attend meetings to identify project scopes, assist in designing capacity-building initiatives, and represent the team at various forums. The role also involves supporting the supervisor in coordinating mission-wide inputs for reports and providing assistance to other sections of the mission to ensure a cohesive approach to operations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong understanding of human rights issues and the ability to analyze sensitive information. Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in social sciences, political science, international relations, or a related field is required. Experience: A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in political science, political affairs, international relations, human rights, law, mediation, conflict resolution, or a related area is required. Candidates should have prior experience in human rights and program management, with a preference for those who have worked on local peace processes and community engagement.
Languages: Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is considered an advantage for this position.
