Job Overview:
The Deputy Finance Coordinator plays a crucial role in the financial management of the organization’s projects in Sudan. This position is responsible for supporting the Finance Coordinator in overseeing the financial operations, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and donor requirements. The Deputy Finance Coordinator will assist in budgeting, financial reporting, and monitoring expenditures to ensure that resources are utilized effectively and efficiently. The role requires a strong understanding of financial principles and practices, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders. The Deputy Finance Coordinator will also be involved in capacity building efforts, providing training and support to finance staff and project teams to enhance their financial management skills. This position is vital for maintaining the financial integrity of the organization and ensuring that financial processes are streamlined and transparent.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Finance Coordinator in the preparation and monitoring of project budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and donor requirements.
  • Oversee the day-to-day financial operations, including processing payments, managing cash flow, and maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Prepare financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring timely submission and compliance with reporting standards.
  • Conduct regular financial reviews and audits to identify discrepancies and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Provide training and support to project staff on financial management practices and tools.
  • Collaborate with program teams to ensure that financial planning is integrated into project design and implementation.
  • Liaise with external auditors and facilitate the audit process, ensuring all necessary documentation is prepared and available.
  • Monitor compliance with financial policies and procedures, making recommendations for improvements where needed.
  • Assist in the development of financial management tools and resources to enhance the efficiency of financial operations. 1
  • Support the Finance Coordinator in strategic financial planning and decision-making processes.

Required Qualifications:
  • A strong understanding of financial management principles and practices, with a focus on budgeting, accounting, and reporting.
  • Proficiency in financial software and tools, with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and make informed decisions.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
  • Knowledge of donor compliance requirements and financial regulations in the humanitarian sector is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field is required. A master’s degree or professional certification (such as CPA or ACCA) is preferred and will be considered an asset.

Experience:
A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in financial management, preferably within the humanitarian or development sector. Experience in managing financial operations for projects funded by international donors is highly desirable. Proven experience in capacity building and training of finance staff is also an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Arabic is an asset and will be considered a plus, as it facilitates communication with local stakeholders and beneficiaries.
