Job Overview: The Protection Assistant (Field-Based) plays a crucial role within DRC’s Protection team, directly reporting to the Protection Team Leader. This position is primarily based in Sittwe Township, with responsibilities that include daily visits to various project locations. The Protection Assistant is tasked with delivering high-quality protection services, ensuring compliance with protection principles and confidentiality standards. The role requires building and maintaining positive relationships with persons of concern, community members, and local stakeholders to enhance protection efforts and coordination. The Protection Assistant will engage in various activities, including awareness-raising sessions, protection monitoring, and community mobilization, to ensure effective implementation of protection strategies in the field.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Protection Assistant will conduct daily visits to assigned project locations, mobilizing community members to participate in activities such as awareness-raising and information dissemination sessions. Responsibilities include carrying out protection monitoring activities, reporting protection incidents, and maintaining confidentiality of all reports and case management documents. The role involves supporting the Protection Officer in conducting needs assessments, developing case plans, and ensuring timely referrals to service providers. The Protection Assistant will also assist in organizing capacity-building training and community-based protection activities, actively participate in team meetings, and uphold the safety and confidentiality of collected information. Additional duties may be assigned by the line manager as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in a relevant field, along with training certificates related to protection, child protection, human rights, and international law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">humanitarian law. A minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience in local or international NGOs is required, with a focus on working with vulnerable communities. Strong facilitation and reporting skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team, are essential. Candidates should demonstrate excellent knowledge of protection and human rights, problem-solving skills, and analytical abilities to identify needs and vulnerabilities.
Educational Background: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in a relevant field, complemented by training certificates in protection-related areas such as protection monitoring, child protection, and human rights. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of protection work and effectively engaging with affected communities.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 1 year of relevant work experience, preferably in the context of local or international NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable communities is essential, as is the ability to demonstrate excellent facilitation and reporting skills. The role requires both independent work and collaboration within a team, highlighting the need for adaptability and strong interpersonal skills.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Myanmar languages, both written and verbal, is mandatory. Knowledge of other local languages is considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse community members and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The successful applicant will receive a DRC Regular contract, which includes a 3-month probation period. The contract is renewable based on funding and performance. The position is classified in Employment Band I - non-management. Candidates must be able to work in Sittwe camp-based settings.
