Job Overview:
The National IC Nurse position is crucial within the Medical Unit of MINURSO, located in Laayoune. The nurse will have independent responsibility for planning and implementing their own work plan, as well as that of other nursing staff as delegated by the Chief Medical Officer. The role emphasizes the promotion and maintenance of healthcare within the mission, including the prevention of health hazards for all staff members. The nurse will be expected to prepare medical budgets, manage administrative documentation, and procure necessary medications and consumables. This position requires a full-time commitment, with the nurse being on-call 24/7 when necessary, responding to emergencies, and assisting Medical Officers in providing comprehensive medical care.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The National IC Nurse will be responsible for a variety of duties, including but not limited to: attending to day-to-day activities at the clinic, responding to emergency calls, performing diagnostic and screening tests such as ECGs, and drawing blood for laboratory tests. The nurse will maintain and organize the medical clinic for emergencies, assess the needs of clients, and ensure confidentiality in patient records. They will also provide health education, maintain medical inventory, assist in the pharmacy, and support medical evacuations when required. Additionally, the nurse will review immunization statuses, assist in budget preparation, and perform other administrative tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with formal education or training in nursing, such as a registered professional nurse designation. A minimum of five years of progressive clinical experience in the medical field is required, with a focus on nursing activities in hospitals. Experience in international medical facilities is desirable, and certifications in CPR, Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) are considered assets.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a high school diploma and formal nursing education, which may include a registered nurse designation or equivalent training. This ensures that the candidate has the necessary foundational knowledge and skills to perform effectively in a clinical setting.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of progressive clinical experience in the medical field, specifically in nursing activities within hospital environments. Experience in international medical settings is highly desirable, as it prepares the candidate for the unique challenges and responsibilities associated with working in a mission like MINURSO.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. A working knowledge of French and/or Arabic is desirable, which would enhance communication within the diverse environment of the mission.
