Job Overview: The Protection Monitoring Officer plays a crucial role within DRC’s Protection team, primarily responsible for leading and implementing protection monitoring activities in Sittwe Township and surrounding areas. This position involves conducting regular field visits to assess protection risks and document human rights concerns, providing timely and evidence-based analysis to inform programming and advocacy efforts. The officer is expected to engage with affected communities and relevant stakeholders to ensure that protection concerns are effectively identified and addressed. Duties and Responsibilities: The Protection Monitoring Officer will conduct regular protection monitoring visits to project locations, collecting data on protection risks, human rights concerns, and humanitarian needs. Responsibilities include identifying and documenting protection concerns through key informant interviews, focus group discussions, and direct observation, as well as updating Protection Information Management Systems (PIMs) on a weekly and monthly basis. The officer will analyze and report trends in protection risks to inform evidence-based programming and advocacy efforts, ensuring timely and accurate data collection, entry, and reporting while maintaining confidentiality. The officer will support the development of protection monitoring reports, briefing notes, and situation analyses based on field findings, and coordinate with community members, local authorities, and humanitarian actors to strengthen response mechanisms. Additionally, the officer will refer individuals with urgent protection needs to appropriate services and follow up to ensure assistance, conduct awareness sessions with communities on protection risks and available services, and contribute to the design and improvement of protection monitoring tools and methodologies. Regular updates to the Protection Team Leader and participation in team meetings and coordination forums are also required, along with the preparation of internal weekly/monthly protection reports in English summarizing protection monitoring activities and key findings.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in social science, Social Work, Public Health, or related disciplines. Preferred qualifications include training certificates related to protection, protection monitoring, basic principles and guidelines, child protection, and human rights. A minimum of two years of experience in protection monitoring, humanitarian response, or human rights work is required, preferably in displacement or conflict-affected settings. Candidates should have a strong understanding of protection principles, human rights frameworks, and humanitarian standards, as well as experience in conducting assessments and interviews with affected communities. Proven analytical skills and the ability to produce clear reports to inform programming and advocacy are essential, along with knowledge of referral mechanisms and experience in safely referring individuals with protection needs.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in social science, Social Work, Public Health, or related fields. Additional training or certifications in protection-related topics are highly desirable and may enhance a candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience in protection monitoring, humanitarian response, or human rights work, particularly in contexts affected by displacement or conflict. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of protection principles and frameworks, as well as experience in engaging with affected communities and conducting assessments.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in other local languages is considered an asset, as it may facilitate better communication with community members and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The successful applicant will receive a DRC Regular contract, which includes a three-month probation period. The contract is renewable based on funding and performance. The position is classified within Employment Band H, which is a non-management level. Candidates must be able to work and be based in Sittwe, Myanmar.
