Job Overview: The HMA Assistant – Radio Operator will support Technical Field Managers (TFMs) in various operational tasks. This role is crucial for ensuring effective communication and coordination among Mine Action Teams and other operational units. The assistant will be responsible for recording and producing minutes of operational meetings, updating documentation, and maintaining communication logs. The position requires a proactive approach to assist in logistical planning, report drafting, and ensuring that all operational teams are informed and equipped for their tasks. The HMA Assistant will also play a key role in maintaining operational maps and overseeing communications to ensure that all teams are in regular contact while deployed in the field. This position is vital for the smooth operation of Mine Action activities and requires a commitment to the safety and efficiency of all involved.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the HMA Assistant – Radio Operator include: assisting TFMs in recording and producing minutes of operational meetings; updating visitor logs, attendance sheets, and documentation; supporting the preparation of procurement plans and reports; liaising with DRC Safety for permissions and safety assessments; updating operational maps and locations of Mine Action Teams; overseeing communications to ensure regular contact with operational teams; entering daily reports into information boards; maintaining communications logs; ensuring team lists and CASEVAC flow charts are updated; coordinating the flow of updated information across departments; maintaining organized DRC files and warehouses; accompanying TFMs to stakeholder meetings; and performing other duties as assigned by TFMs and Operations Manager.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for this position include fluency in both English and Arabic, both written and spoken. Candidates must have experience working in challenging and insecure environments and be able to work effectively in a team setting. Good physical condition and health are also necessary for this role. Familiarity with the Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) sector is considered an advantage. The candidate should demonstrate DRC's core competencies, including striving for excellence, collaborating with relevant parties, taking the lead, effective communication, and demonstrating integrity in all actions.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a college qualification in English language. Familiarity with the Humanitarian Mine Action sector is advantageous but not mandatory. The educational background should support the ability to communicate effectively in both English and Arabic, as well as understand the operational requirements of the role.
Experience: Candidates should have prior experience working in challenging environments, particularly in humanitarian or emergency response settings. Experience in communication roles or operational support within the HMA sector is beneficial. The ability to work collaboratively in a team and adapt to changing circumstances is essential for success in this position.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken Arabic is mandatory, as well as fluency in written and spoken English. These language skills are crucial for effective communication with team members, stakeholders, and during operational tasks.
Additional Notes: The successful applicant will receive a contract until November 30, 2025, with the possibility of renewal based on funding and performance. The position is full-time, and the candidate must be available to start work as soon as possible in Hodeida. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment, and the position is classified as Band (I Non-manager). The HMA Assistant will report to the HMA Manager.
