Job Overview:
The Assistant Political Affairs Officer plays a crucial role in the UNAMA Kunduz Field Office, reporting directly to the Political Team Leader and Head of Field Office. This position involves gathering, selecting, and analyzing information from various sources, including the press, to maintain an up-to-date understanding of political issues affecting Afghanistan. The officer is expected to monitor national and regional political developments, provide advice to field missions and UN agencies, and maintain contacts with other UN sectors and international organizations. The role also includes preparing meetings for senior officials, contributing to data collection and analysis, and documenting requirements for data analysis. The Assistant Political Affairs Officer is expected to demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and effective planning and organizing skills to achieve organizational goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Political Affairs Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Gathering, selecting, and analyzing information from communications and publications received from different sources.
  • Maintaining knowledge of political events and trends that affect the assigned countries or thematic mandates.
  • Monitoring national and regional political developments and advising field missions and UN agencies.
  • Maintaining contacts with other UN sectors, international organizations, and governments for coordination and policy matters.
  • Monitoring actions taken by intergovernmental groups, UN organizations, and NGOs.
  • Classifying and storing information related to potential disputes and conflicts in computerized databases.
  • Preparing meetings for senior officials and contributing to data analysis and visualization for decision-making.
  • Documenting requirements and background information for data analysis.
  • Performing other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in Political Science, International Relations, Social Sciences, Law, Public Administration, International Economics, Economics, or Journalism. A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, development management, conflict resolution, or a related area is required. Candidates with a relevant master’s degree or higher may have the minimum experience requirement reduced to zero years. Experience with international organizations working in the region is desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in fields such as Political Science, International Relations, Social Sciences, Law, Public Administration, International Economics, Economics, or Journalism. Experience:
