NRC began its operations in Iran in 2012 and has since been actively involved in delivering humanitarian assistance in 10 provinces, focusing on education, food security, WASH, shelter construction, and legal assistance. The organization also plays a significant role in advocacy efforts to improve the rights of displaced individuals in Iran, particularly in support of the Afghan population residing in the country.

Job Overview:
The Protection Technical Assistant position is a temporary role for a duration of 9 months, aimed at supporting the implementation of NRC's protection portfolio. The role involves ensuring adherence to NRC policies and guidelines, assisting in the organization and delivery of protection-related tasks, and maintaining confidentiality in handling sensitive information. The assistant will be responsible for conducting case management and assessments, developing action plans, and ensuring accurate data entry for protection assessments. This position requires a commitment to best practices and international protection standards, as well as the ability to work collaboratively within a multicultural team. The role is crucial in providing support to vulnerable populations and ensuring that their rights are respected and protected.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Protection Technical Assistant include:
  • Ensuring adherence to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, and guidelines.
  • Complying with NRC Safe and Inclusive Programming guidelines.
  • Assisting in the implementation of the protection portfolio according to established plans and international standards.
  • Organizing and delivering tasks in line with agreed priorities and relevant guiding principles.
  • Maintaining proper filing of documents and confidentiality of stored information.
  • Conducting case management and Individual Protection Assessments (IPA), including the development of action plans and referrals.
  • Recording and completing data entry for protection assessments in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring accurate data entry of all cases received and handling all information in a confidential manner.
  • Performing any other tasks relevant to the position as requested by the line manager.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Protection Technical Assistant position include:
  • Knowledge of Psychological First Aid and/or Trauma Informed Interview Techniques.
  • At least 1 year of work experience as a Caseworker in humanitarian or recovery settings, preferably in Iran or Afghanistan.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Good computer skills, particularly in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Kobo.
  • Excellent understanding of case management principles and processes.
  • Knowledge of service mapping and referrals.
  • Previous experience in protection-related activities is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural organization with diverse team members.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for the Protection Technical Assistant position typically includes a degree in social work, psychology, international relations, or a related field. Candidates with relevant certifications or training in protection, case management, or humanitarian assistance will be considered favorably. Continuous professional development in related areas is also encouraged to enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.

Experience:
Candidates applying for the Protection Technical Assistant position should have at least 1 year of relevant work experience in humanitarian settings, particularly in case management or protection-related roles. The salary will be based on NRC's grade structure, specifically grade 4 of the organizational grading system. The duty station is in Tehran, Iran, with flexibility based on the candidate's location, and the role may involve field visits (approximately 30%) to provinces where NRC operates.
