The bureau operates in 16 countries and engages with various stakeholders, including the UN Secretariat and donor organizations, to facilitate development initiatives. RBAS aims to enhance regional programming results and performance through strategic oversight and partnership strategies, ensuring that development issues are prioritized and addressed effectively.
Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position at RBAS is designed to provide support across various teams in New York and Amman, focusing on sustainable development initiatives in the Arab region. Interns will engage in policy and strategy development, project design, knowledge management, and operational support. The role requires a proactive approach to assist in the documentation of regional consultations, prepare policy briefs, and contribute to the development of communication products. Interns will also be involved in research and data management, providing administrative support for workshops and conferences, and ensuring effective communication of UNDP's initiatives and results. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in international development and contribute to impactful projects aimed at addressing the region's challenges.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will perform a variety of tasks, including:
Policy and Strategy Advice and Development: Prepare policy briefs and status papers on development challenges, assist in the development of new initiatives, document good practices, and prepare reports on UNDP’s programmatic support.
Project Design and Formulation: Assist in policy development, prepare conceptual frameworks for new areas of work, and review project documents.
Research and Data Management: Conduct research on relevant initiatives, analyze data, and manage online databases.
Operations Support: Provide administrative support, organize workshops, and assist in procurement processes. Interns will also be expected to engage in collaborative work, demonstrate strong communication skills, and maintain attention to detail in all tasks.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and demonstrate the ability to work harmoniously with diverse teams. A strong interest in development issues, particularly in the Arab region, is essential. Interns should exhibit initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to analyze and synthesize information effectively. Proficiency in information and communication technology is also required, along with a keen attention to detail and a collaborative work ethic.
Educational Background: Applicants must be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program or in the final year of a first university degree program. Recent graduates who have completed their degree within the last year are also eligible to apply. Additionally, candidates enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program may undertake the internship as part of their program requirements.
Experience: While prior experience is not mandatory, candidates with research experience or knowledge of the Arab region will be preferred. Interns should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges, showcasing their ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Languages: Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required for this position. Proficiency in Arabic and French is considered an asset, enhancing the intern's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and contribute to communication efforts.
