Job Overview:
The position of Intern - Data Analytics at UNICEF involves working under the guidance of the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Deputy Director, Audit, and the direct supervision of the Manager, Professional Practices. The intern will play a crucial role in developing Business Intelligence dashboards for Internal Audit, which includes working with multiple data sources, analyzing data, and integrating it into the business intelligence platform. The intern will be responsible for interpreting various data sources, ensuring data accuracy, and preparing analytical reports. This role is essential for enhancing the operations of UNICEF by providing independent and objective assurance on the effectiveness of risk management and internal controls.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the development of Business Intelligence dashboards for Internal Audit.
  • Work with multiple data sources to locate, access, understand, and analyze data.
  • Understand and apply various formulas, pivot tables, and connections between spreadsheets and data sources.
  • Integrate data into the business intelligence platform by translating MS Excel data into understandable formats.
  • Identify efficient means of harvesting data for analysis and integration into the Business Intelligence platform.
  • Test the data in the BI platform to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Participate in meetings with various departments to understand the data provided and propose methods for data integration.
  • Prepare guidance notes for data compilation and extraction from the Business Intelligence platform for Audit Planning.
  • Assist in the preparation of analytical reports and related outputs as required. 1
  • Provide periodic updates to the Data Analytics working group.

Required Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in a University or an Advanced Degree Program or have graduated within the past two years.
  • Advanced Coursework and/or Certification in MS Excel or Data Analytics is highly desirable.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills, including managing workbook options, formatting data, creating advanced formulas and macros, and managing advanced charts and tables.
  • Working knowledge of PowerBi or similar Business Intelligence tools is an advantage.
  • Coursework and/or experience scripting in Python, PowerShell, or other scripting languages is beneficial.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to work effectively on multiple assignments simultaneously.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university or an advanced degree program, or have graduated within the past two years. Advanced coursework in data analytics or certifications in MS Excel are highly desirable, indicating a strong foundation in data management and analysis.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have relevant experience in data analytics, preferably through coursework or internships. Familiarity with business intelligence tools and scripting languages is beneficial, but not mandatory. The emphasis is on the ability to work with data and provide analytical insights effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English (verbal and written) is mandatory. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate in a diverse environment.

Additional Notes:
The internship is in-person in New York, with a tentative start date of April 1, 2025, and a duration of 6 months. The position is paid (stipend). Candidates must provide proof of enrollment in a health/accident plan prior to starting the internship. UNICEF will not cover costs arising from accidents or illness during the intern's service. Selected candidates must ensure their visa and health insurance are valid for the entire contract period. Additionally, candidates are subject to confirmation of fully vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a WHO-endorsed vaccine, which is required before taking up the assignment, except for those working remotely.
