Job Overview:
The internship position at UNIC Mexico is designed for individuals who are eager to gain practical experience in the field of communications within an international organization. The intern will work under the direct supervision of UNIC’s Director and/or the National Information Officer (NIO), contributing to the production and delivery of information communications products and services. The role requires full-time commitment for a duration of 6 months, with a workload of 35 hours per week. Interns will have the opportunity to engage in various communication activities, including drafting media documents, updating social media accounts, and assisting in the organization of events. This position is particularly suited for students or recent graduates who are passionate about social issues and the work of the United Nations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: drafting media and communication documents; assisting in the production and delivery of information communications products; supporting the strategic communication efforts of the United Nations in Mexico, Latin America, and the Caribbean; coordinating communication activities among UN System agencies in Mexico; updating UNIC Mexico's website and social media accounts; liaising with civil society, academia, and NGOs in Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic; assisting in event organization; producing multimedia materials in Spanish and other languages; collaborating with public and private sectors on UN-related activities; promoting UN education and youth participation; and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must be enrolled in or have completed the second to last university degree program of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in fields such as social sciences, journalism, communications, audiovisual communications, social media management, marketing, advertising, multimedia production, or related areas. While professional work experience is not required for this internship, a field of study closely related to the internship is essential. Applicants must also provide proof of their academic status, such as an official certificate, at a later stage of the application process.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be students in the second to last year of their bachelor’s degree program or have completed a bachelor’s degree. The educational background should be relevant to the internship position, particularly in areas related to communications, media, or social sciences.

Experience:
No prior professional work experience is required for this internship position. However, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the duties and responsibilities of the internship.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written Spanish is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat. Fluency in English is desirable but not mandatory. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both languages, particularly in drafting and editing content for various communication platforms.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for covering their own costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses.
