Job Overview:
The consultant position is focused on providing continuous support to program and project development within the organization. This role involves conducting ongoing research, data collection, and analysis to support both existing and new initiatives. The consultant will be responsible for preparing proposals, budgets, and reports, ensuring that all activities align with the organizational goals. The position requires effective coordination and administrative management of program activities to facilitate smooth implementation and informed decision-making. The consultant will work closely with the Economic Affairs Officer and the Managing Director, contributing to the overall success of the organization's projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will perform a variety of functions under the supervision of the Economic Affairs Officer, including: assisting in the coordination of program/project planning and preparation; monitoring the status of proposals; ensuring project documents are completed and submitted for approval; preparing and analyzing program/project proposals; interpreting budget guidelines; reviewing submissions of proposals and budget estimates; conducting research on science, technology, and innovation; compiling and analyzing data on economic, social, and environmental issues; ensuring compliance with reporting requirements; serving as a focal point for program/project implementation activities; maintaining and updating files and databases; drafting correspondence related to program/project administration; assisting in the development of annual work plans and communication activities; and performing other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, international development, social sciences, political sciences, engineering, or related fields. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in program and/or project operations and administration, technical cooperation, or a related area is required, preferably within the international development sector or with international organizations. Experience with administrative policies and procedures in international organizations is desirable, as is familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as Umoja/SAP. Experience in the United Nations Common System or similar international organizations is also desirable, along with at least one year of experience in data analytics or a related area.
Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as business or public administration, international development, social sciences, political sciences, or engineering. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of program and project management within the context of international development.
Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in program and/or project operations and administration. This experience should ideally be within the international development sector or with international organizations, providing the candidate with a solid understanding of the challenges and requirements of working in this field. Additional experience in data analytics or related areas is also desirable, as it will enhance the candidate's ability to analyze and present data effectively.
Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is considered desirable, as it may facilitate communication and collaboration within the organization and with international partners.

The position is expected to last for a duration of six months. The consultant will be expected to demonstrate competencies in professionalism, planning and organizing, and teamwork.
