Job Overview:
The primary objective of the Chauffeur Principal is to provide reliable and safe driving services to the UNICEF Representative, demonstrating the highest standards of professionalism, discretion, integrity, and responsibility. The role requires an excellent understanding of local driving regulations and protocols, ensuring that the vehicle is maintained in optimal condition at all times. The Chauffeur Principal is expected to be a role model, exhibiting courtesy, tact, and the ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. This position is crucial in facilitating the movement of UNICEF officials and ensuring their safety and comfort during transportation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the assigned vehicle is in good working condition at all times by performing minor repairs, arranging for major repairs, timely oil changes, checking tires, brakes, water levels, and washing the vehicle.
  • Provide reliable and safe driving services for UNICEF staff and officials.
  • Drive the UNICEF Representative and high-ranking UN officials on missions.
  • Meet high-ranking officials and visitors at the airport, assisting with visa and customs arrangements as necessary.
  • Ensure the availability of all required documents/supplies, including vehicle insurance, registration, and maintaining an updated logbook.
  • Carry essential items in the vehicle, such as city maps, first aid kits, and necessary spare parts.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with insurance and other tax formalities.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and exercise good judgment in all interactions.

Required Qualifications:
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of local driving rules and regulations is essential.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Basic vehicle repair skills are an advantage.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks efficiently.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a secondary school diploma. A valid driver's license is mandatory, along with a solid understanding of local driving regulations.

Experience:
A minimum of three years of professional driving experience in an international organization, embassy, or UN system is required. A safe driving record is essential, demonstrating reliability and responsibility in previous roles.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written French is mandatory. Knowledge of one or more local languages is an asset. Proficiency in another official UN language is also considered an advantage.
