Job Overview:
The Social Worker position is critical in addressing the needs of unaccompanied minors (UMC) in Greece, particularly in the context of the ongoing migrant crisis. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing daily care and support to UMCs residing in designated accommodation facilities. This role involves conducting social assessments, identifying the needs and vulnerabilities of UMCs, and facilitating access to necessary services. The Social Worker will work closely with the Child Protection Assistant and Field Office Coordinator to ensure that the UMCs receive tailored support and interventions, including psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support when needed. The position requires a proactive approach to organizing individual and group sessions to provide social support, as well as mapping existing resources available to UMCs. The ultimate goal is to support the UMCs in their gradual transition to autonomy and adulthood, ensuring their well-being and integration into society.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Review the social history of UMCs during their reception process in the accommodation facility, considering their family environment and experiences prior to entry.
  • Conduct Best Interest Assessments (BIA) to identify the needs and vulnerabilities of UMCs, referring them to the facility's Psychologist when psychosocial support is necessary.
  • Organize individual or group sessions to provide social support and address challenges faced by UMCs during their stay.
  • Map existing provisions in the national and humanitarian systems available to UMCs and assist them in accessing relevant services.
  • Prepare documentation, leaflets, and outreach messaging in collaboration with interpreters.
  • Support the development of competencies in UMCs to promote their autonomy and smooth transition to adulthood.
  • Identify and utilize educational, recreational, and vocational training opportunities available in the local context.
  • File and post required information on UMCs in the local Adoption Information System (Anynet).
  • Undertake actions as directed by the UMCs' reference person in accordance with IOM policies and local laws. 1
  • Conduct morning and/or afternoon shifts and be available for on-call night shifts and weekends. 1
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • University degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum one year of relevant work experience is preferred.
  • Licensed Social Worker and membership in the Association of Greek Social Workers is required.
  • Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees is preferred.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment is an advantage.
  • Computer literacy in standard software applications (MS Office, etc.) is considered an asset.
  • Valid driver's license with at least five years of driving experience is advantageous.
  • Flexibility and capacity for conflict resolution, along with good communication skills, personal commitment, and efficiency are essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Social Work from an accredited academic institution. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. A minimum of one year of relevant work experience is advantageous, and candidates must be licensed social workers and members of the Association of Greek Social Workers.

Experience:
The position requires previous experience in a similar role, with preference given to candidates who have worked in an IOM Emergency Accommodation Facility. Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees is preferred, and experience in a multicultural environment is considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to the values and mission of IOM.

Languages:
Fluency in Greek is mandatory, along with certified working knowledge of English or French (oral and written). Proficiency in IOM's official languages, which include English, French, and Spanish, will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, potentially through written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Greece will be eligible for consideration.
