Job Overview:
The Driver/Messenger position at UNICEF is crucial for ensuring reliable and safe transportation services for staff and officials. Under the supervision of the Administrative Associate, the driver/messenger is expected to demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and integrity while adhering to local driving regulations. This role is not just about driving; it involves a client-oriented approach, high responsibility, and the ability to work with diverse individuals from various cultural backgrounds. The driver/messenger will be responsible for transporting UN staff, officials, and visitors, as well as handling the delivery and collection of mail and documents. The position also requires maintaining the assigned vehicle in good condition, ensuring it is clean and operational at all times, and keeping accurate vehicle logs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide reliable and safe driving services for UN staff and officials.
- Drive office vehicles for the transport of personnel, visitors, and delivery of documents.
- Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport, assisting with visa and customs formalities as needed.
- Maintain the assigned vehicle, ensuring it is in good running condition through minor repairs and timely servicing.
- Keep the vehicle clean and tidy, performing daily cleaning tasks.
- Maintain all vehicle logs and documentation, including insurance and registration.
- Ensure the availability of necessary documents and supplies in the vehicle, such as first aid kits and spare parts.
- Adhere to local driving rules and regulations at all times.
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of secondary education is required.
- A valid driver’s license and knowledge of local driving rules and regulations are essential.
- A minimum of two years of work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system with a safe driving record is required.
- Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of the local language is considered an asset.
Educational Background:
The position requires at least a secondary education level, which provides the foundational knowledge necessary for the role. A valid driver's license is also a prerequisite, ensuring that the candidate is legally permitted to operate a vehicle in the local context.
Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of two years of relevant work experience as a driver, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or the UN system. This experience should include a proven safe driving record, demonstrating reliability and responsibility in vehicle operation.
Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within UNICEF. Knowledge of the local language is advantageous and can enhance communication with local stakeholders and communities.
