Job Overview:
The Analyst on Communications and Social Mobilization plays a crucial role in supporting UNFPA's mission in Costa Rica by designing, planning, executing, and monitoring communication and partnership strategies. This position involves managing a network of partners and alliances to enhance the effectiveness of UNFPA's programs. The Analyst will work closely with various stakeholders, including national institutions, UN interagency groups, NGOs, and private sector organizations, to promote strategic partnerships and resource mobilization efforts. The role requires a deep understanding of the political, social, and economic landscape to provide substantive inputs for program formulation and positioning. The Analyst will also be responsible for monitoring the implementation of UNFPA's programs, ensuring compliance with established procedures, and making necessary adjustments to enhance effectiveness. This position demands a proactive approach to communication, advocacy, and social mobilization, with a focus on achieving results and promoting the rights of marginalized populations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Analyst on Communications and Social Mobilization will lead the design, planning, and management of UNFPA's country program by analyzing communication and partnership trends. Key responsibilities include:
  • Developing and implementing an innovative communications strategy to raise awareness of UNFPA's mandate and strengthen political support.
  • Creating work plans for communication activities, monitoring compliance, and managing budgetary resources.
  • Providing analysis and guidance on communication strategies to the Country Office, including regular updates on the internal and external environment.
  • Collaborating with mass media to promote UNFPA's initiatives and maintain public interest.
  • Adapting and disseminating advocacy materials, ensuring they reach target audiences effectively.
  • Maintaining the UNFPA Costa Rica website and managing social media presence.
  • Supporting resource mobilization efforts by identifying potential partnerships and funding sources.
  • Monitoring existing partnerships and ensuring timely reporting on program activities.
  • Contributing to the development of advocacy and communication training for partners. 1
  • Engaging in strategic planning and providing inputs for population and development programming.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree (minimum Master's Degree or equivalent) in Communication, Journalism, Public Policies, Political or Social Sciences. Additionally, a minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in Corporate Communication and Resource Mobilization is required. Candidates should demonstrate experience in culturally sensitive programming, advising on gender equality initiatives, and implementing strategies that promote the rights of marginalized populations. A strong track record of technical leadership and the ability to produce high-quality results are essential for this role.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced degree, specifically a Master's Degree or equivalent, in fields related to Communication, Journalism, Public Policies, Political or Social Sciences. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of communication strategies and social mobilization efforts within the context of UNFPA's mission.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in Corporate Communication and Resource Mobilization. Experience in culturally sensitive programming is essential, as well as a demonstrated ability to support initiatives that promote equality, population policies, and universal health services. Candidates should also have experience in implementing strategies that align with the 'Leave No One Behind' agenda and possess a strong understanding of data management best practices.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish and English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, a working knowledge of other official UN languages is considered an asset, as it enhances communication and collaboration within the UN system and with diverse stakeholders.
