Job Overview:
The Education Officer will work under the supervision of the Chief Field Office in Maroua, providing professional technical, operational, and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for education programs/projects. This includes development planning, execution, management, and implementation of various technical and administrative tasks to facilitate program development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting. The role requires a proactive approach to support program development and planning, manage program delivery, provide technical and operational support, build partnerships, and foster innovation and capacity building within the education sector.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the development and planning of education programs/projects, ensuring alignment with UNICEF's strategic goals.
  • Manage the implementation of education programs, monitoring progress and ensuring timely delivery of results.
  • Provide technical and operational support to program implementation, addressing challenges and facilitating solutions.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Engage in knowledge management practices to share best practices and lessons learned.
  • Conduct capacity building initiatives for local partners and stakeholders to strengthen program delivery.
  • Monitor and evaluate program outcomes, preparing reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in coordination meetings and contribute to strategic discussions regarding education in the region.

Required Qualifications:
  • A university degree in education, psychology, sociology, or a relevant technical field is required.
  • A minimum of two years of professional experience in program planning, management, and/or research in both development and emergency contexts is required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in project management and monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with the UN system and experience in a UN agency is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a developing country, particularly in the North and Far North regions, is desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree in one of the following fields: education, psychology, sociology, or another relevant technical area. This educational background is essential to understand the complexities of educational programming and the socio-cultural dynamics affecting education in the region.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of professional experience in program planning, management, and/or research. This experience should encompass both development and emergency contexts, demonstrating the candidate's ability to adapt to varying circumstances and challenges in the field of education.

Languages:
Fluency in French and English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language or the local language of the duty station is considered an asset, enhancing communication and engagement with local communities and stakeholders.
