Job Posting Organization:
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a leading intergovernmental organization that provides services and advice concerning migration to governments and migrants alike. Established in 1951, IOM has grown to include 173 member states and operates in over 100 countries worldwide. The organization aims to promote humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all, focusing on the needs of migrants and the communities they join. IOM's mission includes providing assistance to migrants in need, supporting governments in managing migration effectively, and addressing the challenges posed by migration in a globalized world.

Job Overview:
The Educational Program Coordinator will play a crucial role in supporting the educational needs of Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMC) residing in IOM's Accommodation Centers. This position involves the implementation of educational programs tailored to the individual needs of each child, ensuring they have access to quality education and support services. The coordinator will work closely with the Shelter Coordinator and Project Coordinator to develop and execute educational plans that include formal education, vocational training, and recreational activities. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying educational opportunities and fostering an inclusive environment for all minors, while also collaborating with local educational institutions and community organizations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assess the educational level of each accommodated minor and prepare individual educational plans as part of their Individual Action Plans.
  • Register children in schools and monitor their attendance in formal education in collaboration with the Legal Guardian.
  • Plan and implement educational programs and remedial teaching, prioritizing Greek language instruction with a minimum of 6 hours per week.
  • Ensure minors' inclusion in vocational training programs.
  • Develop activities that creatively utilize minors' free time, including educational excursions and recreational programs.
  • Maintain individual records, documenting daily observations and activities.
  • Map existing local activities and establish partnerships with private or local actors to facilitate children's enrollment.
  • Collaborate with community organizations to offer daily activities for children.
  • Provide guidance to children on health, hygiene, and personal habits. 1
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
  • University degree in Education, Pedagogy, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • At least one year of relevant professional experience is desirable, particularly in educational settings.
  • Experience in developing and delivering life skills and educational training programs for children is preferred.
  • Familiarity with working in a multicultural environment is an advantage.
  • Strong computer literacy in standard software applications (e.g., MS Office).
  • Valid driver’s license with at least five years of driving experience is an advantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Education, Pedagogy, or a related field that aligns with the educational needs of minors. The degree should be from an accredited academic institution recognized by UNESCO. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate is equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively support the educational development of unaccompanied minors.

Experience:
The position requires at least one year of relevant professional experience, ideally in educational roles that involve working with children. Experience in developing educational programs, life skills training, and working in multicultural settings is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to humanitarian principles and possess the ability to adapt to the dynamic needs of the children served.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Greek (both written and oral) is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly French and Spanish, is considered an asset, as IOM's official languages include these. Language skills will be evaluated during the selection process, which may involve written and/or oral assessments to ensure effective communication with the children and other stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Greece will be considered. The appointment will be contingent upon medical fitness certification, verification of residency, and compliance with government regulations. Vaccination against COVID-19 is required for all IOM personnel. IOM does not charge any fees during the recruitment process and only accepts applications submitted through its online recruitment system. Candidates are encouraged to track their application status through this system.
