Job Overview: The position of Caregiver for Unaccompanied Minors is critical in providing daily care and support to unaccompanied children residing in accommodation facilities in Greece. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Project team leader and Facility Coordinator, ensuring that the needs of the minors are met in a safe and supportive environment. This role involves not only the physical care of the children but also the organization of their daily routines and activities, ensuring their well-being and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security at all times. The caregiver will be responsible for implementing individualized care plans, supporting educational and recreational activities, and maintaining hygiene and living conditions in the facility. The position requires a compassionate individual who can handle emergencies and crises effectively while fostering a nurturing atmosphere for the minors.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide daily care and support to unaccompanied minors in the assigned accommodation facility.
Support the daily operations of the facility according to internal procedures and guidelines.
Ensure the security of accommodated minors at all times, including during night shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
Track the exits and returns of minors and visitors to the facility.
Implement crisis management protocols in emergencies, including notifying local authorities when necessary.
Maintain the facility's equipment and building structures, guiding minors in their proper use.
Oversee hygiene and living conditions in accommodation rooms, collaborating with facility staff.
Organize daily routines and structured activities for minors, implementing individualized schedules.
Assist with educational and recreational activities as needed. 1
Drive and escort minors to social and medical services when required. 1
Support minors during night-time preparations and be present during night shifts. 1
Distribute basic goods and manage inventory, notifying supervisors of needs. 1
Ensure meals are served on time and assist minors with laundry services. 1
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Required Qualifications:
High school degree/certificate with at least two years of certified work experience in care and protection of unaccompanied minors.
Previous experience in a similar role is preferred, particularly in an IOM Emergency Accommodation Facility.
Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees is preferred.
Experience working in a multicultural environment is an advantage.
Computer literacy in standard software applications (e.g., MS Office) is considered an asset.
Valid driver’s license with at least five years of driving experience is an advantage.
Flexibility and capacity in conflict resolution, along with good communication skills, personal commitment, and efficiency are essential.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a high school degree or equivalent certification. Accredited universities recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database are preferred. Additional training or certifications in child protection, social work, or related fields may be beneficial.
Experience: Candidates should have at least two years of certified work experience in care and protection of unaccompanied minors. Previous experience in a similar role, particularly within an IOM Emergency Accommodation Facility, is highly desirable. Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants and/or refugees will be considered an asset, as well as experience in a multicultural environment.
Languages: Fluency in Greek (oral and written) is required for this position. Working knowledge of English, French, or any other language that facilitates communication with beneficiaries is desirable. Proficiency in the required languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Greece will be eligible for consideration. The appointment will be contingent upon medical fitness certification, verification of residency, visa, and government authorizations where applicable. Vaccination against COVID-19 is required for IOM personnel.
