Job Overview: The Project Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the management of ongoing and pipeline projects within the Planet Pillar of UNDP China. This position involves effective coordination among various portfolios, including Biodiversity and Ecosystem, Climate Change Mitigation, and Renewable Energy. The Project Assistant will report directly to the Assistant Resident Representative - Team Leader of the Planet Pillar and will be responsible for collecting and consolidating data, preparing reports, and assisting in the formulation of strategies and plans. The role requires a proactive approach to resource mobilization and communication, ensuring that the Planet Pillar's objectives align with the broader goals of the UNDP and the Government of China.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support effective coordination, monitoring, and communications of the Planet Team’s overall CPD implementation by providing regular updates to the UNDP China Management Team on project statuses and government priorities.
Assist in the formulation of project-related documents and coordinate with consultants and project teams for capacity assessments and budget preparations.
Manage logistics for internal and external missions, including organizing meetings and workshops, and providing translation services as needed.
Coordinate high-level missions with government counterparts, preparing necessary briefing notes and follow-up actions.
Facilitate partnerships with potential donors and support the development of project documents and communication strategies.
Perform additional duties as required to ensure the efficient functioning of the office and organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess secondary education as a minimum requirement, with a university degree in Environmental Science, International Relations, Natural Resources, Climate Change, or related fields being advantageous. Relevant experience in project assistance within international organizations is essential, with a minimum of 5 years of experience required for those with secondary education, or 2 years for those with a bachelor's degree. Strong English writing skills, particularly in reporting and briefing, are necessary, along with familiarity with program management and UN operations.
Educational Background: A secondary education is required, while a bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as Environmental Science, International Relations, or Climate Change is preferred. A master's degree in a related discipline will be given due consideration, enhancing the candidate's profile for the position.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience for candidates with secondary education or 2 years for those with a bachelor's degree. Experience in project assistance, particularly within international institutions or organizations, is crucial. Familiarity with natural resource management or government-related work is also beneficial, as is previous experience with the UN system.
Languages: Fluency in both Chinese and English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
