Job Overview: The Representative leads a country office team in the design and implementation of a comprehensive population and development and sexual and reproductive health country programme. This role involves forming alliances and partnerships with various stakeholders, including governments, UN agencies, civil society, and the private sector, to realize the 2030 Agenda. The Representative is responsible for ensuring that the programme addresses the needs of the most vulnerable populations and integrates sexual and reproductive health issues into the national development agenda. The position requires a strategic approach to program management, advocacy, and resource mobilization, ensuring that UNFPA's mandate is effectively promoted and implemented.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Direction, Planning, and Management: Lead the positioning of UNFPA on strategic issues in the country, build institutional relationships with various stakeholders, promote UNFPA’s role in the national development agenda, and establish priorities for the Country Office.
Management of Resources: Manage international and national staff, foster a culture of growth and development, attract and retain high-caliber staff, and ensure compliance with security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security standards.
Programme Leadership and Representation: Advise senior management on country-level issues, engage national counterparts through effective advocacy, and represent UNFPA within the UN Country Team.
Education: A postgraduate university degree in Public Health, Medicine, Sociology, Demography, Gender, International Relations, International Development, Economics, Public Administration, Management, or a related field.
Knowledge and Experience: 15 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in public administration and international development, with at least 10 years in population and development, sexual and reproductive health, or humanitarian contexts. Proven ability to lead teams and engage in advocacy and policy dialogue. Field experience is essential, particularly in developing or crisis contexts.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a postgraduate university degree in relevant fields such as Public Health, Sociology, Gender, International Relations, or related disciplines. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of population and development issues and for effectively managing the Country Programme.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 15 years of professional experience in public administration and international development, with at least 10 years specifically in the field of population and development or sexual and reproductive health at the international level. Experience in advocacy, policy dialogue, and media communication is also required, along with field experience in developing or humanitarian contexts.
Languages: Fluency in English and French is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in any other UN language is considered desirable, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and partners.
