Job Overview:
This internship opportunity is situated within the Directorate of Navigation at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in Noordwijk, Netherlands. The primary focus of this position is on cybersecurity audits and the integration of frameworks for space navigation systems. The intern will engage in research activities related to new cybersecurity frameworks, such as the security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Level and Assurance Framework (SLSA), and will work on proposing integration solutions with the existing Cyber Internal Audit Framework utilized by the industry. This role is crucial in ensuring the security assurance process and managing cybersecurity risks associated with navigation systems like Galileo, which are delivered to ESA's customers. The intern will be expected to contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of cybersecurity measures within the organization, aligning with the European Space Security Policy for Navigation Programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for conducting research on new cybersecurity frameworks and their applicability to the existing systems. This includes analyzing current cybersecurity practices, identifying gaps, and proposing solutions for integration. The intern will also assist in the preparation of documentation related to cybersecurity audits, participate in meetings with stakeholders, and contribute to the development of best practices for cybersecurity within the navigation systems. Additionally, the intern may be involved in supporting the team in various operational tasks and projects related to cybersecurity and navigation systems, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be university students, preferably in their final or second-to-last year of a Master's level course. A strong interest in cybersecurity, information security, and auditing is essential. Basic knowledge or training in these areas will be considered an asset. Familiarity with software development practices is also advantageous. The candidate should demonstrate a proactive approach to learning and problem-solving, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to be enrolled in a university program, ideally pursuing a Master's degree in a relevant field such as cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, or engineering. The candidate must remain enrolled at their university for the entire duration of the internship, ensuring that they can balance academic commitments with the internship responsibilities.
Experience:
While prior professional experience is not mandatory, any relevant internships, projects, or coursework related to cybersecurity, information security, or auditing will be beneficial. The ideal candidate should have a foundational understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices, as well as an eagerness to learn and apply new concepts in a practical setting.
Languages:
The working languages of the European Space Agency are English and French. A good command of one of these languages is required for the position.
