Job Overview: The Caseworker position is designed to provide trauma-informed services to refugees and other qualified immigrants, ensuring a positive resettlement experience and promoting client self-sufficiency. The Caseworker will engage closely with clients, colleagues, and external stakeholders to create tailored service and self-sufficiency plans that align with individual client needs and preferences. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of various services and resources available to clients, including financial, medical, social, and vocational support, all while adhering to client eligibility and program requirements. The Caseworker will play a crucial role in facilitating the integration of clients into their new communities, helping them navigate the complexities of resettlement and achieve their personal and professional goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Caseworker's responsibilities encompass a wide range of tasks, including but not limited to: conducting client intakes, assessments, and program orientations; developing individualized self-sufficiency plans and timelines in collaboration with clients; administering and monitoring financial assistance for clients; assessing and tracking client progress towards established goals; creating comprehensive employment plans and budget strategies for employable adults; providing job readiness services such as resume building and interview preparation; assisting clients and employer partners with post-placement needs; documenting client interactions in accordance with program requirements; inputting client information into databases and assisting with tracking and reporting; collaborating with coworkers and partner organizations; building and maintaining relationships with local service providers; utilizing personal or public transportation to travel and transport clients; potentially training and leading volunteers and interns; and performing other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Caseworker position should possess a Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field, although relevant professional experience in the human services sector is also highly valued. A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role is strongly preferred, particularly experience working with refugee and immigrant populations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong relationship-building skills, diplomacy, and networking abilities, along with a proven track record of effective communication in multicultural environments. Self-motivation, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively are essential. Attention to detail and accuracy in work output are critical for success in this role.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this position is a Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field of study. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding the complexities of social services and the unique challenges faced by refugees and immigrants.
Experience: The position requires relevant professional experience in the human services field, with a minimum of 2 years of experience strongly preferred. Languages: Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is mandatory for this position. Additionally, proficiency in languages spoken by IRC’s clients is highly desirable. Additional Notes: The working environment for this position includes a combination of standard office settings, remote work, and fieldwork within the service delivery area. The role may require occasional weekend and evening work to accommodate client needs. Compensation for this position is based on various factors, including labor market conditions, job type, internal equity, and budget considerations.
