Job Overview:
The R&D Programme Coordination Engineer will play a crucial role in the Galileo and EGNOS Evolution Division within the Directorate of Navigation. This position involves coordinating cross-cutting programme management actions and implementing a portfolio of EU-funded GNSS R&D activities. The engineer will work closely with the head of the division to ensure effective communication and reporting, as well as connecting the Galileo and EGNOS programmes from an R&D perspective. The role requires collaboration with various teams to devise roadmaps, propose R&D activities, and manage industrial activities as a Technical Officer. This position is vital for the advancement of satellite navigation technologies and the successful implementation of related services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the R&D Programme Coordination Engineer include:
  • Supporting the head of the Division in coordinating cross-cutting programme management actions, including reporting and communication.
  • Connecting the Galileo and EGNOS programmes from an R&D perspective by coordinating R&D items related to services that could be implemented as part of the Galileo or EGNOS infrastructure.
  • Coordinating and implementing a portfolio of EU-funded GNSS R&D activities, which involves: a. Helping devise the roadmap in coordination with relevant teams. b. Proposing and formulating R&D activities for inclusion in work plans for approval by the European Commission. c. Running industrial activities as a Technical Officer, which includes preparing procurement, following up on related activities, reporting, and managing resources and schedules.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:
  • A master's degree in a scientific or engineering discipline is required.
  • Experience in the field of satellite and radio navigation principles, systems, and related technologies.
  • Experience in preparing procurement activities for technology development and innovation, including Statements of Work and proposal evaluations.
  • Familiarity with industrial procurement and development processes, verification processes, and conducting reviews.
  • Knowledge of the space-related industrial landscape and the ability to define technology development roadmaps that identify future trends in technology requirements.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a master's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary technical knowledge and skills to perform the duties associated with the position effectively.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have relevant professional experience in the field of satellite navigation and R&D programme management. While specific years of experience are not stated, it is implied that candidates with less than four years of relevant experience may be considered for a lower grade level (A1). Therefore, candidates with a minimum of four years of experience in related fields will be preferred for the A2-A4 grade band.
