Job Overview:
The Social and Human Sciences Officer will be positioned within UNESCO’s Social and Human Sciences Sector (SHS), which is dedicated to addressing fundamental humanist missions such as combating violence, racism, and discrimination, promoting gender empowerment, and supporting youth and people with disabilities. The incumbent will be responsible for developing and implementing projects and proposals that align with UNESCO's organizational priorities, while also coordinating with Headquarters to ensure consistency and effectiveness. This role involves providing research and knowledge management expertise, developing partnerships, and contributing to resource mobilization efforts across the region, which includes countries such as Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Panama. The officer will also focus on the ethical implications of emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and neurotechnology, and will work to implement initiatives that promote social inclusion and intercultural dialogue, all while adhering to UNESCO's Medium-Term Strategy and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be tasked with analyzing, evaluating, and contributing to the development and implementation of the SHS strategy for the Field Office. This includes identifying and developing collaborative project proposals that align with national priorities and UN SDGs. The officer will manage and implement program activities, particularly those related to the social, ethical, and human rights implications of emerging technologies. Responsibilities also include conducting research, providing technical advice, and supporting policy formulation and project development for governments and civil society organizations. The officer will contribute to resource mobilization efforts, prepare reports and documentation, and ensure effective communication and coordination with stakeholders. Additionally, the officer will participate in networking and partnership activities to enhance UNESCO's visibility and impact in the region.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in social and human sciences, law, philosophy, international relations, or cultural studies. A minimum of four years of relevant professional experience in international relations or social and human sciences is required, with at least two years at the international level. Experience in project implementation, fundraising, and resource mobilization is also essential. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. Knowledge of results-based management and the capacity to work effectively in a multicultural environment are critical.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is an advanced university degree, specifically a Master's degree or equivalent, in fields related to social and human sciences, law, philosophy, international relations, or cultural studies. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of social issues and the ethical implications of emerging technologies.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of four years of relevant professional experience, with at least two years of that experience at the international level. Languages:

The position is a fixed-term contract for a duration of two years, open to both internal and external candidates.
