Job Overview:
The Finance Coordinator is a pivotal role within SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia, responsible for overseeing all financial accounting and management activities that contribute to the organization's overall objectives. This position entails the implementation of financial policies and activities while enhancing the capacity of staff and local partners throughout the financial processes. The Finance Coordinator is expected to promote effective communication and coordination among departments and staff to ensure the efficient utilization of resources. Additionally, the role involves active participation in budget proposal preparation and the management and monitoring of budget utilization in close collaboration with the Location Program Director and National Finance Manager. The Finance Coordinator will ensure that financial records adhere to organizational policies and Ethiopian government regulations, design internal financial control systems, and provide training to staff on financial management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Finance Coordinator will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to:
  • Financial Management: Ensuring that accounting records comply with organizational policies and Ethiopian regulations, designing internal financial control systems, and ensuring effective financial handling and processes.
  • Budget Preparation & Management: Assisting program staff with budgeting activities, compiling data for budget preparation, administering approved budgets, and conducting periodic budget utilization comparisons.
  • Cash and Bank Management: Ensuring sufficient funds are available for project needs, timely deposits of collections, and verifying monthly bank reconciliation statements.
  • Auditing: Preparing reports and documents for auditors, facilitating audits, and addressing queries from auditors.
  • Staff Training and Capacity Building: Organizing training sessions for finance and non-finance staff, conducting performance reviews, and enhancing staff capacity through on-the-job training.
  • Other Duties: Participating in monitoring visits, securing project implementation budgets, providing financial reports for stakeholders, and performing additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Safeguarding: Ensuring child safeguarding measures are in place and integrated into all management processes.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Finance Coordinator position must possess a Master's or Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. Additionally, candidates should have at least five years of experience in directly related areas, with a minimum of three years in a senior position. Proficiency in computer and accounting software is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the organization’s vision and mission, child rights, and child development, as well as strategic orientation, collaboration, people development, leadership, integrity, communication skills, and functional skills in project cycle management, financial management, HR management, and fundraising.

Educational Background:
Candidates must hold a Master's or Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of financial management and accounting practices necessary for the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience in finance-related roles, with at least three years in a senior position. This experience should encompass financial management, budgeting, and accounting practices, ideally within a non-governmental organization or similar context.

Languages:
