Job Overview: The Senior Development Officer, Mid-Level Fundraising is a pivotal role within the High Impact Philanthropy (HIP) team at Mercy Corps. This position is responsible for managing a portfolio of over 500 Mid-Level donors, who contribute between $1,000 and $10,000 annually. The officer will engage in personalized outreach to strengthen relationships with these donors, ensuring their continued support and commitment to the organization. The role also involves collaborating with the Mass Market Fundraising team to develop strategies for donor retention, acquisition, and stewardship. The officer will play a key role in reviewing and enhancing Mass Market Direct Mail campaigns, ensuring that the messaging resonates with the Mid-Level audience. Overall, this position is crucial for maintaining and growing the donor base that supports Mercy Corps' mission.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Cultivate, solicit, and steward an assigned portfolio of Mid-Level donors, ensuring personalized outreach through various communication channels such as phone, email, and in-person meetings.
Collaborate with the Mid-Level Team to create strategic touchpoints aimed at retaining Mid-Level donors and preventing drop-offs in engagement.
Work closely with the Director of Donor Advancement to develop donor journeys and outreach plans for reactivating lapsed donors.
Partner with the Mass Market Direct Mail team to strategize on converting new donors to the Mid-Level giving threshold.
Represent the Mid-Level team in communications regarding the review and approval of Mass Market Direct Mail pieces, ensuring alignment with the Mid-Level communication plan.
Monitor and assess the performance of Mass Market Direct Mail campaigns for the Mid-Level audience, providing feedback and reporting results to the team.
Actively engage in safeguarding practices, promoting a culture of respect and integrity within the organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Senior Development Officer position should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to build and maintain relationships with donors. A strategic mindset is essential for developing effective donor engagement plans. The ideal candidate should demonstrate experience in fundraising, particularly in managing donor portfolios and executing direct mail campaigns. Proficiency in data analysis and reporting is also required to assess campaign performance and donor engagement metrics. Additionally, candidates should exhibit a commitment to the values of Mercy Corps, including respect for the dignity and well-being of all participants and team members.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as nonprofit management, business administration, or communications is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in fundraising or related areas are preferred but not mandatory. Continuous professional development in fundraising strategies and donor engagement practices is encouraged.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, specifically in donor relationship management and direct mail campaigns. Experience working with Mid-Level donors and knowledge of high-impact philanthropy strategies will be considered a significant advantage. Familiarity with the nonprofit sector and an understanding of the challenges and opportunities within fundraising are essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communications and outreach will be conducted in English. Proficiency in additional languages is considered a plus, particularly languages relevant to the donor base or the regions where Mercy Corps operates.
Additional Notes: This position is available as a full-time role, with the option to work remotely or from the Portland office. The Senior Development Officer will not have supervisory responsibilities but will collaborate closely with various teams within the organization.
