Job Overview: The position of Vaccinator is crucial in addressing the low routine immunization coverage in the southern provinces of Afghanistan, particularly Kandahar and Helmand. The role is part of a broader strategy implemented by UNICEF to achieve polio-free status in the region and improve child survival interventions. The selected vaccinators will be responsible for conducting vaccination sessions, developing micro-plans, and ensuring quality vaccination services. They will also manage vaccine and data effectively while providing health education and awareness to caregivers and mothers. The role emphasizes the importance of reaching underserved areas and increasing the number of vaccinated children under one year of age. The vaccinators will work closely with local health facilities and communities to enhance outreach efforts and ensure that vaccination services are accessible to all.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Vaccinator will be responsible for the following duties:
Conducting vaccination sessions in various health facilities and outreach locations.
Developing micro-plans for vaccination activities to ensure effective coverage.
Providing quality vaccination services in accordance with national health policies.
Managing vaccines and data efficiently, ensuring accurate record-keeping and reporting.
Educating caregivers and mothers about the importance of vaccinations and health practices.
Collaborating with local health authorities and stakeholders to enhance vaccination outreach.
Participating in training sessions and refresher courses to stay updated on vaccination protocols.
Working in high-pressure environments and adapting to rapidly changing situations.
Maintaining effective communication with team members and community members to promote vaccination initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Diploma in Nursing, Midwifery, Laboratory, Pharmacy, or a related field from an accredited institution. Additionally, a minimum of 6 months of relevant experience in vaccination and outreach health promotion activities is required. Candidates who have completed the initial MOPH/NEPI immunization training or refresher training will have an advantage. Previous experience working with international organizations and knowledge of medical emergency management will also be considered beneficial. Strong clinical skills, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively with local authorities and stakeholders are essential for this role.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Diploma in Nursing, Midwifery, Laboratory, Pharmacy, or a related field from an accredited academic institution.
