IMPACT was established through the initiative of ACTED, an international NGO headquartered in Paris, which has a presence in thirty countries. The partnership between IMPACT and ACTED allows IMPACT to leverage ACTED's operational support in various fields of intervention, enhancing its capacity to respond to humanitarian needs effectively. IMPACT has been active in Sudan since 2020, focusing on providing up-to-date data and analysis to humanitarian actors, particularly in response to the ongoing crises in the region.

Job Overview:
The Senior Assessment Officer will play a crucial role in implementing IMPACT's needs assessments in hard-to-reach areas of Sudan. This position involves managing the entire research cycle, which includes preparation, data collection, analysis, drafting, dissemination, and evaluation of assessments. The officer will engage with partners to enhance participation and ensure the effective use of resources. The role requires strong research skills, analytical thinking, creativity, and independence, as well as a keen interest in the regional context. The officer will be responsible for analyzing data, writing briefs and factsheets, and presenting findings to diverse audiences, ensuring clarity and relevance in communication. This position is vital for understanding the humanitarian situation in Sudan, especially in areas affected by conflict, and for informing humanitarian responses both within Sudan and in neighboring countries.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Assessment Officer's responsibilities encompass several key areas:
  • Research Cycle Management: Overseeing the research cycle, including research design, data collection, and analysis, ensuring alignment with strategic response objectives.
  • Contextual Understanding: Staying informed about the evolving context in Sudan to inform assessments and responses.
  • Research and Technical Skills: Leading the development and implementation of analytical workstreams, utilizing existing REACH data for thematic briefs and reports.
  • Staff Management and Training: Promoting capacity building within the IMPACT Sudan mission, managing the research team, and enhancing analytical capabilities.
  • Coordination: Facilitating internal coordination with HQ departments and external coordination with organizations involved in data collection for needs assessments. The officer will maintain confidentiality regarding all collected data and processes, ensuring the protection of sensitive information.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in a humanitarian setting, particularly in assessments, monitoring and evaluation, and research design and analysis. Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills are essential, along with a good understanding of the aid system and prior experience with humanitarian coordination forums. Thematic experience in conflict-affected areas, particularly in sectors such as public health, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security, nutrition, WASH, and health, is highly desirable. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required for effective reporting and engagement with stakeholders.

Educational Background:
The position requires excellent academic qualifications, including a master's degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as international studies, development, humanitarian response, data science, or political science. Candidates should demonstrate a strong foundation in research methodologies and analytical techniques relevant to humanitarian assessments.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 3 years of relevant work experience in a humanitarian context, with a focus on assessments, monitoring and evaluation, and research design and analysis. Experience in conflict-affected or hard-to-reach areas is particularly valuable, as is familiarity with the specific challenges and dynamics of the region.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while competency in Arabic is considered an asset. Strong communication skills in both languages will enhance the officer's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and present findings effectively.

The position is a full-time role with a contract duration of 12 months, starting in August 202
  • The salary ranges between 2,400 CHF and 2,640 CHF monthly, before income tax, along with a monthly living allowance of 300 USD. IMPACT provides accommodation and food in a guesthouse, health insurance, life insurance, and repatriation assistance. Flight tickets every six months and visa fees are covered, along with contributions to luggage transportation. Employees are entitled to 36 days of annual leave and public holidays of the country of assignment. Pre-departure training and enrollment in the IMPACT Research Foundational Learning Programme are included. The organization prioritizes the psychological safety of its staff, offering coverage for psychosocial counseling.
