Job Overview:

The primary focus of this internship is to enhance the collection and visualization of performance and effectiveness indicators related to space mission operations. Interns will work on improving a tool named STAR, which is responsible for querying records from a database and presenting statistical results in various formats. The role involves expanding the measurements of indicators, verifying algorithms, facilitating user experience, and updating libraries as necessary. Interns will gain insights into the processes involved in space operations and the statistical measures that assess the quality of systems and activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
  • Improving the STAR tool by expanding the range of performance and effectiveness indicators collected from space mission operations.
  • Verifying the correctness of algorithms used in the tool and ensuring their adequacy with the database records.
  • Enhancing the user interface and overall usability of the STAR tool to facilitate better interaction for users.
  • Updating the libraries used in the tool to ensure compatibility and efficiency.
  • Collaborating with team members to understand the operational processes and the statistical measures that are critical for assessing the quality of systems and activities in space operations.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in Computer Science, with mandatory knowledge of PHP, Maria DB, and Docker. Additionally, applicants should be university students, preferably in their final or second-to-last year of a Master’s level course, and must remain enrolled at their university for the entire duration of the internship. A good command of English or French is required, with knowledge of another language from a Member State being an asset.

Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to be university students, ideally in their final or second-to-last year of a Master’s program. The educational background should be in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline that provides the necessary technical skills for the internship.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandated, candidates should demonstrate familiarity with programming and database management through academic projects or relevant coursework. Experience with PHP, Maria DB, and Docker is essential, as these technologies will be utilized during the internship.

Languages:
The working languages of the European Space Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these languages is mandatory for the position. Additionally, knowledge of another language from a Member State would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's profile.
