Job Overview: The United Nations Volunteer (UNV) position is designed to support the implementation of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Country Programme in Lesotho. The UNV will engage in various rural development initiatives, collaborating closely with government ministries, project management teams, rural producers, and international partners. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to the workings of IFAD and contribute to evidence-based decision-making through analytical work. The UNV will focus on three primary areas: management of the Country Programme, supervision and implementation support of IFAD-funded projects, and country-level policy engagement and partnership development. Duties and Responsibilities: The UN Volunteer will undertake a comprehensive set of responsibilities under the direct supervision of the IFAD director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director. Key duties include:
Management of Country Programme: Contributing to project implementation and supervision, preparing mission terms of references, reviewing country programmes, monitoring execution, providing tailored implementation support, and contributing to the country knowledge agenda.
Supervision and Implementation Support: Reviewing country programmes' Annual Work Plans and Budgets, monitoring compliance with key performance indicators, and supporting documentation and dissemination of lessons learned.
Country Level Policy Engagement and Partnership Development: Engaging with United Nations Country Teams, establishing counterpart contacts, participating in policy meetings, and supporting partnership building at the country level. The UNV will also contribute to thematic events and workshops, support project design and completion, and assist in reporting on events within IFAD.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the UNV position should possess a strong understanding of rural development, project management, and policy engagement. They should demonstrate excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. A background in agricultural development, economics, or a related field is essential, along with a commitment to sustainable development and poverty reduction. Familiarity with IFAD's operational policies and frameworks will be advantageous.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required for this position, typically including a degree in agricultural development, economics, social sciences, or a related field.
