The organization operates in approximately twenty countries and employs around 2500 individuals, including expatriates, national staff, permanent staff at headquarters, and volunteers. Job Overview: The Basic Needs / security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Food Security & Livelihood (FSL) Coordinator is a crucial member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) at Solidarités International. This role involves significant travel and deployment to crisis areas where SI has decided to intervene. The coordinator's primary responsibilities include conducting rapid needs assessments, analyzing urgent multi-sectorial needs, and prioritizing interventions for affected populations. The position requires a balance of fieldwork (70% of the time) and headquarters support (30% of the time). In the field, the coordinator will manage the design, implementation, and coordination of emergency interventions related to basic needs and food security. Additionally, the coordinator will provide training and technical support to staff as needed. At headquarters, the coordinator will contribute to the Emergency Preparedness and Response strategy and support internal knowledge building related to FSL and basic needs in emergencies.
Duties and Responsibilities: The ERT Basic Needs/Food Security & Livelihood Coordinator will be responsible for the following duties:
Prepare, conduct, and formalize initial multisectoral assessments to identify the needs of affected populations.
Collaborate with the ERT and desk team to define relevant intervention strategies based on the context.
Manage the implementation of emergency interventions, ensuring they are effective and responsive to the needs identified.
Represent SI for programmatic purposes in countries of intervention, maintaining strong relationships with local stakeholders.
Provide technical support on basic needs programming upon request from other program coordinators or regional directors.
Engage in training and capacity building for local staff and partners.
Contribute to the development of internal guidelines and best practices for FSL interventions in emergencies.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in humanitarian work, with specific qualifications including:
A university degree, preferably a Master’s Degree, in relevant fields such as Agricultural Sciences, Nutrition, Food Security, Livelihoods, global humanitarian studies, or economic sciences.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least 5 years in a similar position.
Strong experience in emergency interventions in complex environments, including cash-based programming and/or in-kind distribution.
Proven knowledge and experience in designing and implementing FSL projects, as well as understanding principled-based approaches and project cycle management.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree, with a preference for a Master’s Degree in relevant fields such as Agricultural Sciences, Nutrition, Food Security, Livelihoods, global humanitarian studies, or economic sciences. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of humanitarian aid and the specific needs of affected populations.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have more than 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with a specific focus on roles similar to that of the Basic Needs / FSL Coordinator. This experience should include significant involvement in emergency response and the management of food security and livelihood programs in crisis situations.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with international partners. Proficiency in French is also required, as it is essential for operations in many of the countries where SI operates. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, depending on the deployment location.
Additional Notes: This is a salaried position with a starting salary of EUR 2860 gross per month, which includes a base salary of EUR 2600 plus a 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly. The position also includes a monthly per diem based on deployment, accommodation costs, and travel expenses covered by SI. The contract duration is for 1 year, with breaks implemented at a rate of 7 working days every three months, along with a USD 850 break allowance. Expatriates will benefit from a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses, including medical, surgical, dental, and repatriation costs, as well as a welfare system that includes coverage for war risks. Essential vaccinations and antimalarial treatment costs are also reimbursed.
