Job Overview:
The position of National Curriculum Review and Development Specialist is part of the Climate Smart Education System Initiative (CSESI) launched by the Global Partnership for Education in collaboration with Save the Children and UNESCO. The initiative aims to integrate climate change adaptation and environmental sustainability into education systems in around 20 countries, including Cambodia. The specialist will work closely with national and international experts to conduct a comprehensive curriculum review, focusing on the integration of climate change education across all educational levels. This role involves evaluating existing curricula, identifying gaps, and providing actionable recommendations to enhance climate change education in Cambodia. The specialist will also support the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS) in organizing consultations and validation workshops to ensure stakeholder engagement and feedback on the curriculum review process.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The National Curriculum Review and Development Specialist will be responsible for several key tasks, including: conducting a comprehensive review of subject-level curricula and non-formal education programs related to climate change and environmental sustainability; developing recommendations for integrating climate change education into curricula, teaching, and assessment; supporting the MoEYS and UNESCO Phnom Penh office in organizing consultations and validation workshops; preparing detailed reports and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations; and collaborating with various stakeholders, including technical departments of MoEYS and other development partners, to ensure the successful implementation of the curriculum review process. Specific activities include developing an inception report, conducting primary data collection, synthesizing findings, and drafting quality review reports based on the agreed work plan and timeline.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Curriculum Development, Education, or a related field. They should have extensive professional knowledge and at least 7 years of experience in curriculum development at either the national or international level. A strong understanding of education for sustainable development, climate change, and disaster risk reduction is essential, particularly as it intersects with the education sector. Additionally, candidates should have excellent conceptual and analytical skills, interpersonal and communication skills, research and writing abilities, and the capacity to work efficiently under pressure in a multicultural team environment.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree in Curriculum Development, Education, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of curriculum design and implementation, particularly in the context of integrating climate change and environmental sustainability into educational frameworks.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in curriculum development, with a strong emphasis on education for sustainable development and climate change education. Experience working within the Cambodian education sector is highly desirable, as it will provide valuable insights into the local context and existing educational frameworks.

Languages:
Fluency in Khmer and English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Excellent language skills are essential for effective communication with stakeholders, conducting consultations, and preparing reports and presentations. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.

The contract duration for this position is 5 months, tentatively from January 1 to May 30, 202
