The American Heart Association (AHA) has an excellent opportunity for a Program Coordinator within our Western States Region located in Los Angeles, California.
The Program Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of the American Heart Association’s nutrition security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security efforts with an emphasis on produce prescription programs. In this role, the Program Coordinator will support the planning, implementation, and delivery of both new and existing produce prescription programs in collaboration with health care and public health partners throughout Los Angeles County.
Working under the direction of the Community Advocacy Director and in collaboration with the Community Impact Director, the Program Coordinator will provide both in-person and virtual coordination of produce distribution, tracking and data collection, volunteer engagement and coalition/working group representation. The Program Coordinator will play an important role in advancing sustainable improvements to community health through policy, system, and environmental changes.
This is a grant-supported, part-time position with an anticipated duration through June 2022 offering a variable schedule of up to 20 hours per week.
Due to the current pandemic, daily travel is minimal and voluntary to ensure the health and safety of staff. All AHA offices are closed and staff are currently working from home. Offices will be reopening in September 2021; this position will resume to being based in the local office.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Duties:
- Advance policy, system and environmental changes and wins through the Implementation of onsite produce prescription distributions at various hospitals through our LA County.
- Coordinate produce availability, transportation, and delivery to multiple distribution points on a weekly basis along with related supplies and educational materials and resources.
- Identifies and trains volunteers for produce prescription distributions in collaboration with Community Impact staff.
- Ensure appropriate tracking and data collection are being completed, compiled, and submitted monthly.
- Process invoices and associated expenses and prepare monthly spending reports.
- Participate in prioritized collaboratives/coalitions/working groups in collaboration with Community Advocacy Director and Community Impact Director.
- Health program planning.
- Health program implementation.
- Office administration skills, including general clerical skills (e.g., filing, typing, copying, telephone etiquette and operation)
- Effective written communication skills, including skill in proof reading for grammar and spelling.
- Effective interpersonal skills and ability to maintain a professional manner in all dealings with customers, staff, and others; ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to read, write, and speak in Spanish.
- Bachelor’s degree may be preferred in supporting the required level of skill, knowledge and experience required.
- Public health knowledge
- Experience in nutrition security programs
- Knowledge of AHA’s mission and programs.
